For my third plane, I am thinking of building a 40 sized CAP 232 from a plan (150 cm or 59 in span, final weight around 2.5 kg or 5.5 pounds) and fit in it an OS 65 LA. What do you think of this engine, is it a good and reliable one or it will be better if I put an OS 46 FX?? Since the price difference between them is very small and the 65 LA is a little more powerful I am in doubt....

either the 46 or 65 will fly the plane , but before you decide to go 2 stroke on that type of plane ,check out the 4 strokes,for that type of plane they are the best option.

I personally like Enya. They are very reliable. The enya website has there four stroke engines and specs. I forget the sites name but I will get it. I think it is mrc.com

The 65LA is only marginally more powerful then the 46FX and I garantee that the FX will run better and last longer.

Or, if that little bit of power means that much to you, check out the Magnum .52

If you are choosing between the 60LA and 46FX, I'll offer another vote for the 46FX for similar reasons to what 3DF posted.

Well actually I am begginig to get inclined to the 46FX because itīs lighter. But on the other hand the OS 65 LA seems to have more torque and swings the same props that a FS 70 swings. For me, 4 stroke engines are out of question because they are too expensive....Their price here in Brazil is the same as the price of 5 standard servos plus a 46 FX plus all the material to build the plane. Too expensive....Since I am only 14 my parents arenīt willing to pay the price of a complete airplane just for an engine....
I ordered a 46 LA for another plane I have and as soon as it comes to my hands (the LHS didnīt have it in stock just the 40LA so they ordered from the distributor) I will see how it runs....Since I want my CAP to be a little overpowered, if I use the 46FX should I reduce the airplane size by a factor of 0.85 (so it will be lighter) or keep the original dimensions and build light???

I donīt have the plans on the computer I am right now, but once I get home I will check these dimensions. From what I recall itīs asomething like 12cm (5in H) X 10cm (4in W).....I donīt know if itīs correct, but as sson as I get home I will check on the plan....

On the original version:
Height: 14 cm (5.5in)
Width: 11 cm (4.3in)

On the 15% scaled down version:
Height: 12cm (4.7in)
Width: 10 cm (4.0in)

i would put a saito .65 in it in 2 stroke i would put a TT.46 pro with APC 11x6 prop

How about a Webra 50gt with a pitts muffler

How about an Irvine .53 in it? It won't sling a smaller prop as fast as the Webra, but it's got more power. It's a real stump puller with a 12x6 on it. And only $126 at www.hobbybarn.com - Joe
