flight sims?

I believe FMS stands for Free Model Simulator, but I'm not sure. I've been using FMS for years. The graphics are ok, and there are a lot of planes available from other sites for download. Its a good, free. simulator.

Just an FYI, FMS stands for Flying Model Simulator. Its a good, if dated, program for basics, it helped me when i first got started. It will not however appreciably help you with landings...

This is from Tower Hobbies. It is the product description of the RF Basic.
Please note the restrictions and unavailable expansion packs and add ons. "What you see is what you get". This may be ok with the OP. I just wanted to make sure that the OP knows that the product is limited as compared to the RF G5 5.5.

New RealFlight Basic gives modelers all of the essentials needed for an ultra-
realistic R/C flight simulator experience. Along with an excellent variety of
aircraft and flying sites to choose from, potential flyers will also enjoy the
same flight physics that have made the full version of RealFlight the best
selling sim for the past 11 years! RealFlight Basic features many aircraft and
flying fields found in current versions of RealFlight G4.5 and
Expansion Packs-not stripped down, low quality ones. The Basic controller is
based on an actual transmitter-unlike those found on similarly priced flight

benefits of simulated R/C flying-for less!

I don't have a mac, but I've heard of people downloading a program called Boot Camp that allows them to use FMS on their macs. It's worth checking out.
There are a couple other [link=http://www.hooked-on-rc-airplanes.com/free-rc-simulator.html]free rc simulator[/link] on this page. But I think they are for made for PC also.
Aerofly Pro is made to run on macs. It's a nice simulator. But its not free! lol

"Bootcamp" is just a hard drive partition 'program' that comes with Pentium powered Mac's, you still have to install Windows onto it before running any PC based software.

Guess if you have to buy windows you may as well spend the money on a mac compatible sim uh?
[link=http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=744645]Here is a thread on RC Groups[/link] that talks about. Sounds like kind of a pain on the rear end if you ask me. But maybe if you're a computer guru and have the software already it's an option.

That is in all fairness an old thread you list, and while I'm not what you call a computer 'guru', setting up Windows XP on my iMac via the 'Parallels' emulator program was a piece of cake!
To start I just sent my iMac spec's to the help desk at Phoenix, they confirmed that it would support their program via Parallels, and I've been running it ever since. Best money I have ever spent on this hobby (I am a heli guy first, yet my plane has still seen the benefit of having a great quality sim)

You don't think you understand the usefulness of a sim. If you think it JUST to help you learn, your wrong. Get the Champ and have at it. If money is the issue, I think your better off waiting till your in a better place financially, then come back to the hobby.

Better to let simulated failures, etc. teach you how to deal with things, so you have a chance at landing your plane with say a missing rudder and stuck aileron servo.
The sim taught me how to do just that... and when it happened in real life to me, I had the "muscle memory" in place to deal with the situation.

Yep. I practice all sorts of "emergency" situations, including dead-sticks, reversed controls, loss of aileron or elevator.. things that could happen. Of those, I've experienced all but the loss of the aileron in actual flight. It was nice to have practiced it using the sim.
