I purchased an avistar (used) to bump me up from my PT-40. It has a 46 LA with a 10x6. Should that be replaced with an 11x6 as OS suggests? Also, what should my D/R and expo be set at? I would like low rates to fly smoothly and high rates for aerobatics. My tx also has a separate switch for activating each D/R. Any other advice on flying or setting up? (I also have and have flown a cub so i know about the lack of dihedral)
Thanks.
Thanks.

The Avistar still has dihedral unless it was removed. It is an excelent flyng plane. Convert it to a bolt down wing and lose the ruber bands would be my first piece of advice though. I would not worry about setting up dual rates. I like to almost max out the controls and set it up with about 40-60% expo to soften the center positions of the sticks and when I want high rates... I just push the stick further

I will not worry about dual rates then or have one setting with expo and the other without[:-]. It was already converted to a bolt on, which is much easier then rubber bands. I guess the wing does have some dihedral it it, but not as much as the PT-40 which has either 4 or 6 inches in it. I cant wait to fly this weekend!
Thanks again!

Congrads on getting an avistar! You'll love it. I have flown mine now with an OS .40LA and currently an OS .55AX. For my rates i have as much throw on the elevator & ailerons i can get for high rate & 50% of that for low rate. My wings are still rubberbanded on[:@]. Several years ago i actually won our club fun fly with it, so its really versatile. Good choice....Gene

You shouldn't really need dual rates with the Avistar, though some expo to soften the sticks around the middle might be a good idea. That will help prevent overcontrolling while still having full throw available when you want/need it. Expo tends to be a personal preference. Play with the setting until you get the "feel" you like.
The only improvement I can recommend for the Avistar is stiffer main gear. They tend to spread with even the softest of landings. While they detach quickly and easily to bend back into shape, doing so after every few landings gets old quickly.

My Avistar is one of my favorite planes and I'm sure it'll be on your list also.
I have modded mine quite a bit.
It has a bolt on wing, zero dihedral, dual aileron servos, flaps, tail dragger land gear and LED lights in the wings.
I do like to have D/R on my ship.
I have the low set up kinda like a pylon race setting. They are just enough to tip the plane on edge at full stick throw and enough elevator to make it turn tight at full stick throw. One simple full stick command.
The high rates are set at the Max the servos will allow with about 30% Expo (DX6i). Makes for good surface movement but still kinda lazy in the center.
