I have a dilema here. I can not decide wether I:
A. Buy a used profile foamy
B. Buy a profile foamy kit and put it together
C. Cut my own kit from a sheet of foam
And before you ask, I have the skill to fly one, and I want one to learn 3d on before I attempt it on my 100cc edge if that tells you anything.

What size are you thinking? Is there a reason you want a profile?

I want something I can crash and repair at the field for learning 3d.I am thinking something in the 30-40 inch wingspan area is what I want

How about a Handyman or Handy king?

Well... The thing is, I want something that is easy to repair. and if it can't be repaired, cheap to get another airframe. Handyman and handyking airframes need to be bought from the manufactureror a dealer, (which means tons of markup,) wheras I can build a profile from free plans on the internet for $2

I see, so you are looking strictly for a sheet foam project. There are a lot of f22's flying at our field, but I haven't seen anything that would be useful to practice for a 100cc edge.

I bought some Depron foam a while back, can't remember if it was 9mm or 10mm. Anyway, it comes in sheets that are about, oh, 10 inches by 36 inches. The box came with 5 sheets of the stuff. I searched on-line and found a distributor for the stuff.

They have a pretty good assortment of foam sheets. If you are handy with a sharp knife, well, you can outline your own and go from there. You will probably need some carbon strengthening rods and so on. I bought the sheets just to experiment with.

Is what I am building its CHEAP enough and airframe total rebuild (reusing CF and motor etc) is less than $10.00 probably closer to 5 but .....
Be aware that the number of "FOAMIES" plans/planes and preferences are many. Seriously many, like no one is ever gonna count them. If any one does, stay away from 'em they're nuts

FFF or Fan fold foam is likely the cheapest foam, dollar store depapered depron is "prolly" next. EPP is the most durable and is bit more spendy. Many people experiment with plans / planes out of the cheaper foams and if they find one they like they build it out of EPP.

There is a Regal mono wing too but I liked the flight vids of the bipe better. Niether is reported to be a good windy day plane, most 3D foamies wouldn't be.

Ok guys on a different note how good is the Paul Blymyer signature series edge 540 you can buy on RCFoam? And how good is the "power pack" you can buy with it which makes it reciever ready? You can get to both from CGretired's link

For a flat foamy you can't beat BPhoppies.com I get the shorter wingspan extra for $15:00. Has carbon fiber rods ,cut parts, control hardware. Just add electronics. If you total it $15:00 and an afternoon and you're flying again.

Well, the Paul Blymer SU26 certainly looks to me like something that I would - ah.. attempt to put together myself. The price seems reasonable and it looks like something pretty solid. Someone that has experience with it may be able to give you more, but with lack of that, I would get one just to play with. The 9mm depron models look pretty solid. And, with some spare Depron, well, perhaps accidents can be repaired fairly easily.

Well, personaly, my choice would be between Paul Blymyers 34 inch sbach 300 and the 36 inch edge 540 since you can buy a electronics pack from RCfoam for either. I favor the sbach because of price. (sbach: Airframe plus electronics=107 Edge: airframe plus electronics =119) Also the edge electronics pack is out of stock

I have owned one of these for 6 months.Next best thing to having a reset computer button and it will do all the tricks you can throw at it.

But how many times did you fly it in those 6 months? How many times did it crash? The lifespan of such a plane depends more on the pilot than the airframe.

Waffleman I try to fly it every chance I get I would say 4 to 5 times a week It likes calm winds so I like to fly before sunset I flew it tonight with a little bit of wind I have 4 batterys for it that gives me 7 minutes flight time for each battery.I have crash it a lot of times.It is put together with a glue called professional welder its an amazing glue works so well that that is what your control surfaces are hinged with.The worst crash's will crack the foam or if the crash is really bad you could split a hinge apart and all you do is run some glue down the hinge and take a credit card and wipe the excess away and you have your self a new hinge what I'm getting at is I have crash a ton of times and a little professional welder and you are flying again mine flys just as good as the day I bought. I'm telling you they are a blast to fly and 3D"s like no other.

You say it flys 3d like no other. But when one stands back and looks at this class of planes, they are all the same. (excluding bipes) The way they are set up determines how good they fly. You happen to have a great electronics package and an airframe that is put togethter great. If someone used crappy electronics and put it together poorly, their opinion would be much different than yours.

This plane was very easy to put together Greg the guy who sells these will give you all kinds of info and links for building and set up.I did not know anything about electric it was and still is my first electric. Greg set me up with electronics package. If someone used crappy electronics and put it together poorly [pretty hard to mess this build up]then yea that' true with any model.

It has the same wingspan as the paul blymyer sbach, an they have a $5 price difference. However, I can buy an electronics package for the sbach for $67. When the airframe is totalled, I can make a new one from free plans online and use the mentioned electronics in it. This is my opinion, but the sbach seems like a better deal in the long run
