Hi All, I recently flew my new Tower Trainer MKII after about 3 weeks of buildingand and fighting with customer support.i flew it four times all being successful, until i adjusted my high speed needle. of course, i have no idea what im doing since i have flown the super cub lp, andother electric models.my motor died at about fifty feet of the ground damging a prop and my wing. i was running too lean. heres my question
Did i damage the motor? i can flip the prop and it sounds OK. i didnt break the shaft as far as i know. i know running it lean can instantly destroy it as told by my freinds.
What gets damged when it runs too lean?Is it repairable?
do i just need to adjust it right?i could start it with a chicken stick and run it before i crashed.
its a evolution 40 that was included with the p51 mustang from hanger 9. in a crash i lost the pre set for where it was supposed to be. so i have severely messed it up. all i can tell you is that it is pretty close to be screwed in all the way. really i have NOIdea what im doing! i lost the manual in a hobby room cleaning, so im S.O.L. a video or tutorial would be nice.
Sincerly, Sagehillspilot.

If you fly too lean long enough....you can hear a pop and instantly dead stick....when you take the motor apart you might see a hole in the top of the piston the exact diameter of the glow plug....then look all around the piston and sleve and see all the scarring that the slag from the piston did.....only saw that once from a helo engine

Most lean runs just result in the engine overheating and shutting down. Sometimes though it can cause the plating on the cylinder liner to peel, which will make the engine unreliable. To tune correctly, lean the needle until you can hear a slight increase in RPM when you pinch the fuel line. To test the HSN setting, point the nose of the plane up with the tank about half full. If it will run for about 20 seconds or so, you're good. Then get the low end set so the engine will idle for at least 30 seconds without the rpm changing. That should also give you reliable transitions from idle to full throttle.
