Hello all. I purchased a nylon spinner with aluminum backplate. The specs say "Drilled for 1/4" (6mm) shaft with drill guides for 5/16" (8mm). The problem is the hole is to large for my 1/4" shaft on my airplane! its way to sloppy. To me i think its drilled out for the 5/16 shaft.
Part Number: GPMQ4775
Here are the measurements
spinner backplate .312"
my engine shaft (1/4-28 threads) - 0.248
1/4" = 0.25"
5/16" = 0.3125
So what gives here? I ordered a second spinner and it came to me the same way? is the spinner suppose to be this loose?

GUVER, Yeh! thats what i thought when I received the first one. So I called Tower and told them the exact thing. Tower sent me the second one free of charge but the 2nd one is the exact same way. The packaging is very easy to defeat. Only 2 staples holds it together. So I can see someone trying it out and sending it back. You know, the grooves where the backplate contact the propeller seems to be collapsed or smushed down. I dont know....

Chad yes your backplate should have arrived as noted in the listing with a 1/4 hole and stepped for easy drilling to 5/16 or whatever.
If that has not occured then the solution for you that would be the best is to access your fellow club member and request a spare adapter ring set. OK look at this link for another spinner I am not suggesting this spinner but pointing out what you need and ii is that set of plastic insert adapters. These acompany many brand of spinners just not what you bought. I think you will find your fellow club members will have accumulated these by the thousands and it would be no problem.

How much actual gap is there? All the hole really does is locate the back plate in the right place so it's centered when you tighten it down. It does absolutely nothing once you've torqued the prop nut down. So if we're just talking about a slight rattle it won't hurt a thing to center it as best you can and put the prop on. The worst case scenario is that you'll be 1/32 off center which doubtfully means more off balance than a plastic spinner already is from the factory due to manufacturing tolerances. Your plane will never know the difference once it's all tightened down.
