Hi All,
Ok, I came, I looked and I'm lost. I am a real beginner, I'm talking I know which way the plane is supposed to be when you fly it and thats about it. Jeremy Ferguson has taken me under his wing (plane humor) and tried to teach me some things. One thing I wanna know..do all you guys talk in CODE? you know, use words like "spool up the turbine, use those FBI boxes that have JR written on them, drool over little pieces of plastic in a bag? I always thought that whiplash was something you got in a car accident and a kangaroo was something at a zoo. To make a long story short..he bought me a plane for my birthday but he hasn't trusted me enough to fly it yet. He says something about a "buddy box" but who knows what that means. He painted it for me and he kept saying "what do I care what it looks like...it isn't mine!" so there ya got it, I know nothing about this stuff but one day...i will look in the sky and there it will be, ME, not Jeremy holding onto that black box....whats that called again?

Hi sweetie!!!
Hey everyone, I'd like to introduce the future mrs me
!
It's true, I bought her a plane for her birthday, it's kind of difficult to train her though as we currently live 1600 miles apart.
I have dropped a TON of information on her in a very short time, she's done well to remember most of the names of my planes let alone learning the "CODE" we all speak.
The "FBI boxes that say JR" are of course radio boxes. I threw her a real fast ball last summer when I took the long drive to Minnesota with one of my Jets and a car full of accessories.
Previous to my arrival, I had a wet start with my turbine burning some of the back end.
Now let me tell you what kind of woman I have here.
She allowed me to put all my RC stuff in the LIVING ROOM. Not only that, but when I mixed epoxy to do some repairs she didn't beat me. I think the beating was close when I repainted the back end in her living room though LOL!!!!!
I'll be back there in a months time, hopefully we can get her some stick time
We'll have her doing mach 2 in no time with a turbine now
With limited knowledge in the hobby so far, and a flair for fun, I've never seen someone so enthusiastic about this hobby as her, when I took her to the flying field in Owatonna Minnesota last year, her eyes lit up like a small child on christmas morning. She literally had me wanting to fly more than ever, the enthusiasm rubs off something fierce.
She can remember the names of most of my planes fairly well, but she somehow neglected to mention the name of her plane! She has a Hitec "Sky Scooter Pro" electric. She's had some stick time but it's been quite limited. Hopefully the weather will be good in october and she'll be able to fly it on her own.
I know modellers are some of the friendliest people going, so everyone please wish her a big welcome and help out here
Welcome to the forum sweetie!

Welcome to our obcession, JG. Take a look at the Beginner's Guide on my web page. It will help you understand a lot of things about this hobby. At least when you get through reading it, you won't have to use the word "thingies" as often. [sm=biggrin.gif]

Man, I'm glad my wife doesn't read this forum. (I think)
(actually, my wife is also supportave, which is reall cool, and I swear she's more competitive than I am when I'm flying contests).
JG, welcome to this bit of lunicy we call a hobby.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear...
I am not FROM Minnesota. I am a New Yorker who is temporarily misassigned.
But to answer your question, I live in the BIG CITY of Willmar which is about 100 mi West of the Twin Cities (From the Twin Cities, go west until you reach the end of the earth. Turn Left)

JG,
I'll extend my welcome too! Are you sure you know what you're getting into here? When Montague mentioned the "lunacy", he wasn't kidding. And I'm not referring to the antics that take place on RCU (although they're bad enough), I'm talking about the obsession often called RC flying.
Truly though, it's a GREAT way to spend your time, and most of your money.

BTW... spooling up is where the turbine winds up RPMs
Welcome to this little hobby of ours. You're in it for life, by the way
If ya don't like the code-talk, don't get into 3D. That's all we know!

OK JG, here is what I see (although I am not a doctor):
Diagnoses: “RC Modeler/Flyerâ€
Symptoms: “Have difficulties thinking about anything that does not include “rudder, aileron, high/low needle, etc.â€
Addictions: “Very addictive, usually one try is enoughâ€
Occurrence: “Most visible during warm season (late spring through early fall on the north. Possible year long in warmer climates) – especially at the open areas. Know to evolve into new mode[l]s during cold season.â€
Side effects: “joy, happiness, RCUniverse.com
â€
Cure: “NONE known or mostly ineffectiveâ€
Other problems: “Absolutely NOT covered by any insurance and NOT tax deductible (even after first 7.5% of AGI - actually I wonder why
).
Suggestions for the relatives/friends: Jeremy you are lucky one!!! And you guys will decide jewelry or new model (which is in this case A CHEAPER option)!!!
Welcome to the club JG!
Have a good flying!

Who says she has to fly turbines
She might just be the aerobatic type. An R/C Patty Waggstaff.

Jeremy F. You lucky S.O.B.!!!!!!!!!!!!
As of now, I like guns and rc planes and she....well, she likes Ebay and shopping.
She finds guns boring! I almost soiled my pants when she said that considering her dad loves guns too and he was a former Marine.

Welcome, it's great to see another RC couple. We talk in code???? Don't worry Jeremy's Girl, with a little stick time, you'll soon be able to control level on the down leg turn to base and set up on final, and then a little left, some back pressure, cut back some throttle, a little left trim for a good crab, and then to flare just right so she don't kangaroo on the roll out off the active.
Some pilots call it the universal language of love.

"Good point. She might turn out to be a good pilot and fly aerobatics as opposed to turbines that anyone can fly. "
I didn't say it He did!! I wouldn't mind having a turbine but I just cant justify it over a 40% Extra 330. If they ever figure out how to get one of those turbines to torque roll then maybe we will talk about getting one.

She would be so totally free to fly whatever she wants, I'm just a jet freak, I've flown pattern, giant scale, pylon, you name it, been there. I just can't find anything I personally like more than Jets.
Beyond that, Jets are still cheaper for me than a 40% bird, I can fit my turbines in my CAR, I don't need an SUV with trailer to haul it LOL!!!!

I have seen some of those smaller jet videos and yes, I think they are so cool.. I dont know how some of ya fly all that wild stuff, I am sure its a blast and takes a lot of finesse. I like the small stuff. Thats what makes this hobby great huh?..and Southern Touch?..I dont even know what a torque roll is?[sm=confused.gif] really dont. I am sure its some type of acrobatic maneuver or 3d thing although I dont know what 3d is either....
.....Sorry

I was just wondering. I have only seen one woman than can torque roll (and yes it is considered 3D). I was just thinking if any of the female pilots would learn to torque roll well they could always find a guy to take them out
LOL
There is nothing sexier than hearing, this year for our anniversary we could get matching 40% Carden 330's.
