I went flying today for the first time in a year and a half. I had forgotten how much fun it was to buzz around the sky. Even though it had been awhile I had no trouble picking up on it again. I came close to selling my planes a year ago. I sure am glad now I didn't.
I just flew my SPAD coroplast plane. Sort of a spadstik with just a LA .46 for power. Its a nice combo but could use a little more power. I did a lot of take offs and landings. I never once scared myself. I may go again tommorow if the wind stays down. If you get the chance go fly a little especially if you haven't flown in a while.

Hey Jester I was flying in a little field north of 1187 just past a new school they built just east of I-35. That was in the morning. I had so much fun and it was just dead calm so I went and flew off the runway at Oak Grove airport saturday evening till dark. Thats OK to do since it is closed because of Spinks airport. I do have to call the tower and let them know I will be flying there. IIRC you fly at Thunderberg field. I used to be a member there but haven't paid my dues and let my AMA expire. I may have to get that stuff caught up and come fly with you guys again. This is a pic of the SPAD I was flying. Its what I flew the most at Thunderbird Field.
I had so much fun saturday I put my Aircruiser 25 on charge but of course now the wind is up and the flags are blowing straight out. It just too windy for flying today. I will try to go again before the week is out.

My first RC plane was a cox cessena centurian. I taught myself to fly with it. I was flying at arlington lake and the batteries ran out in the receiver. The plane went into a flat spin and crashed nearly 100 yards off shore. This was in march and it was cold. I had to strip down to my underwear and swim out and get my plane. It broke the wing in half and soaked the radio. I dried it out and never had any trouble with it. But I did stop flying over the water.
I am thinking about renewing the AMA and joining the TBirds again. I miss having someone to fly with.

Thanks AMA. The spad looks a little better now. I increased the size of the rudder and added a few more decorations to it. I will try to get another picture up. These are great flying planes. Especially for no more than they cost to build. I am thinking about getting a sig LT-25 and building it. I love slow flying planes that you don't have to control all the time. Here's how it looks now.
I found out I have type 2 diebeties and it was dragging me down physiclly. Now that it is somewhat under control I feel more like doing things. I have 4 kits in my attic and just couldn't make myself even think about working on them. I used to really like building. Maybe this will get me active again.

I love to build. I am bad about building a plane and getting a few flights on it and then selling it after I know what it can do. But some planes just can't be sold. They just fly too good. Like my senioritas and sweet stiks.

I'm not like that at all. It's a badge of honor for me to fly one until it's worn out. My hangar is a black hole for airplanes. The only way out is total destruction.

ratshooter... welcome back! There is indeed something very pleasing about flying our ships. We have had bad smoke followed by a week of severe thunderstorms and high winds so I didn't choose to fly for over two weeks. Got up today even though the winds were strong and just had a blast. Withdrawal symptoms gone.....

I'm pretty much like Jester. Once I get my grubby little hands on a plane, there is no way out for it. I fly them until the covering falls off and the wood is so fuel soaked that covering won't stick to it any more.

When I got back into RC again about three years ago I sat down and made a list of all the RC planes I had built that I could remember. It was something like 45 planes. I would have to have a second house or a large workshop to house them all. Some were just great, others OK and a couple I didn't like at all. Like the Great Planes "Fun One". That plane just felt like it wanted to fall out of the sky unless watched closely. It wasn't pleasant to fly at all. Also a Sig Clipped Wing Cub that was a handful. I just rebuilt that one but didn't like the way it flew.
The Fun One that wasn't fun at all.
