Question Electric to nitro question on new receiver

Hello all,

I'm relatively new to RC Planes. I bought a Sky Surfer Electric Plane about a year ago. Flew with it a lot and crashed it a lot. So now I felt confident to try a bigger plane. I got a second hand plane with a Glow Engine for a good price. Don't want to spend to much on it seeing that it is my first nitro plane and I need to learn a lot about it before I can go all out.

Here is my dilema:

I have a FlySky FS-i6 radio and reciever for the Sky Surfer and using a 3 Cell X-Power Li-Po 11.1V 1300mAh Battery.

The new plane is using a JR Propo Quattro radio with a R700 7ch slimline reciever.
Servos are JR Servo NES-577
Battery is a JR Propo 4N600 Ni-Cd 4.8V 600mAh.

Can I, and if so, how do I use my FlySky TX and RX with the Li-Po battery on the new plane?
Will the RX be able to power and control the servos?
And more importantly, how to I get from 11.1V down to the +-5V to supply the FlySky RX and servos since I will not be using the SCR anymore?
The old battery for both the servos and the radio are not holding charge anymore, and also the flysky is in my opinion a better setup than the one I recieved with the plane.

Any help and information would be much appreciated.

Default New batteries

Easier to get new batteries and a charger than trying to step down the voltage on a 11 V battery pack

The old JR Quattro tx along with the matching JR -700 receiver are an older FM system and if I am not mistaken your FlySky FS-16 is a 2.4 system. If so then the two systems are totally incompatable. Probably only the servos could be interchanged.

You could use the 11 volt lipo and the 20Amp Brushless Electronic Speed Controller from the Fly Sky to power either rx.

You are correct, it is a 2.4 system. But can I use the RX to power and operate the servos?

Do I just disconnect the electric motor and use it without the motor?

Yes. Just tape up the ends of the motor cables.

There's no reason to do that though. Is that 600mah battery you have not any good? Using a flight type lipo with the BEC from a speed controller is just adding extra weight and complexity. You'll be a lot better off just buying the right receiver battery for the plane.

A 1300 lipo weighs 3.4 oz. A 600 nicad weighs 3.1oz. No complexity. Simply plug in the rx wire from BEC to the rx switch. No need to buy another battery..

Yes, it will work. But that does add two extra connectors and an electronic device that likely won't, but can fail. Lipos don't last as long as NiCds either. If the point is to just get the plane in the air and get a permanent power setup later, I could see doing it. But if he's committed to flying this plane, there's no reason not to buy a standard receiver battery to mount into the plane and be done with it.
