Default Its been 30 years

Since I was into R/C planes heavily. Now that Im finally retired Im look to get back in. I reckon things have changed a bit in 30 years. Im going to restart with a J2 or J3 cub in nitro. I need recommendations for good radio, servos and anything else Ive forgotten I need.

Some of the brands you remember are still around. Futaba and Hitec still make good stuff. Spektrum came about about 15 years ago and is a good option too. For less expensive stuff, the FrSky Taranis line is reliable and priced right, but has a steeper learning curve.
As for planes, Horizon Hobby and Tower Hobby are the two big sources for the bigger ARF planes.

What is your budget? As inexpensive as practical, mid-range, or who-cares?

For radio - very basic, good for the average Sunday flier with 6 ch airplanes, or super flexible can do anything?
What is your patience with technology? Just want to plug an play, or not afraid to jump into a myriad of options and details if it allows you to do really cool things later? Do you want a lot of support - a solid "manual" (or other), or do you tend to just discard them anyway and play with it on your own?

What size engines are you thinking? Have you priced out what glow fuel costs these days, and where to get it?

Are ".40" sized electric planes (or smaller) a bridge too far at this restarting stage?

Do you have any of your old gear/planes you might want to use again?

Are there any clubs in your area to join, that can provide direct help if needed?

I wish you the best of luck but would recommend a gas or electric powered plane. Gas would be my pick. Both have pros and cons and some of that depends on you. I don't care for battery. Not because of performance , more because I can't tell without asking for help what ESC goes with what motor and charging LiPos is a pain. At least for me. You got out when I got in. Radios have grown by leaps and bounds which is a good thing. You will find a learning curve on programming. Without getting into a Futaba vs Spektum debate I would suggest visiting and joining a club. Find guys whos company you enjoy and buy what brand they have. This will be a boon when you set one up.
