Since a U-Can-Do 3D can fly so slow, would it be a next step plane for a beginner that can do all there is with a Trainer plane now? I've found that speed is what kills planes for new fliers. I started with two EP planes. Than went to gas. Best thing I could have done.[X(]

Inverted figure eights, outside loops, rolling circles. flat spins?

The U-Can-Do might still be a bit much for you.

But that's one of the great things about this hobby, you can do almost whatever you want.

Funny, I said the same thing about a year ago. Then a good pilot took my plane up, did a few rolling circles, rolling loops, flew inverted 2ft off the ground, and hovered it for about 1/2 tank; then he asked me to copy what he did....point well taken.

Assuming you are not able to do the maneuvers mentioned above, what's the rush??? A better flying plane will not make you a better pilot...so have fun and really wring out that trainer, get your moneys worth.

i've seen trainers do 3D but no way i could do 3D with a trainer........with the UCD i can really rip it up......I dont really practice 3D any way i have done hovers with my comptition plane but it wont torqe......so its not that hard but you might want to be able to fly really good and solid.

Thanks, I'm now rethinking my next plane. Perhaps a GP Sport 40 may be a better choice.

Caddx, I am posed with the same problem as you. I have been kicking aroung a SIG Mid star 40 or 4 star 40. I think I'm leaning to the mid star though. It has a little bit bigger wingspan and therefore should be a little more stable. All the members at my club have said these are excellent 2nd plane choices. They also mentioned buying a "stick". But I watched a stick fly and it seemed very fast and acrobatic. A little too much for me. I might even order my SIG today as a matter of fact. I'm at home from work with a sick kiddo, so I got to get something to make her feel better!!!

Don't rule out the Great Planes Super Sportster.

A sweet flying plane and looks better than a 4*!

Well I ordered the mid * today! In my earlier (pre-Kid) days of RC, A super sportster left a bad taste in my mouth. Total pilot error though! It was a cool plane! Grabbed a handfull of rudder while trying to itch my nose and hold the TX with one hand, and she snapped into the ground on final! I was so heartbroken!!! Took care of the itch though!!

You are right on. I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think the best second plane available would be the 4*. If you can afford it get the 4*60 because you'll get a good feel for what a larger plane can do. I've heard the midstar is great also.

I CAN NOT TELL YOU A BETER SECOND PLANE THAN A EASY SPORT 40 , IT COMES IN A KIT AND IN ARF FORM . IT WILL PERFORM PERFECT FOR A SECOND PLANE IF I ACOULD OF GOT THE IMFORMATION IM GIVING U I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT A TRAINER .THIS PLANE FLYS SO EASY , BUT AT THE SAME TIME IT WILL DO ANY THING U WANT IT TO BESIDES A FLAT SPIN. DUE TO THE LITTLE RUDER AREA. IF U FLY OFF OF GRASS OR IF U WANT YOUR PLANE TO FLY LIKE I JUST MENTIONED GET A 46 2 STROKE FOR IT. [:@]

GO WITH THE EASY SPORT

If you like to build get the 4Star40 or 60. It will land at 2 mph, do all kinds of cool aerobatics and is very forgiving (had mine for 12 years!!!)It will even do great knife edges.
