Do I need to use threadlocker? I have some, I just forgot to use it on the nosegear mount and the rudder and elevator control horns.

Thanx!

Speaking from experience, let me say that landing with your nose-gear swinging about in the breeze is not a pleasant experience. Yes I was a raw newbie and I hadn't been as thorough as I should have been on my pre-flight, but a little extra 'insurance' never goes amiss! Now I make sure that all of the visible screws and bolts on my plane are thoroughly snug before each flight, but since I've started using thread-lock on them I've never found one that's been loose.

Summary: Use thread locking compound on your mounting screws and bolts. Check 'em all before each flight anyway.

Cheers,
Neil.

PS Do I need to use something to make sure my Blind Nuts don't get loose? Or am I just overreacting?

After you hammer your blind nuts home, use a little medium/thick CA and run it around the back edge of the blind nut where it's hammered flat against the wood it's mounted to. BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GET ANY CA INTO THE BLIND NUT THREAD!

I'm definitely of the opinion that glue is a lot cheaper than a new plane, and a little paranoia goes a long way

Cheers,
Neil.

I use thread locker on every metal nut and bolt. Peace of mind and cheap insurance.

I was surprised to see thread locker included with my RTF plane when I built it. Not sure why, but I was. I've used blue thread lock for mounting gun scopes for 30 years now. If it will stop the scope mount screws from rattling off of an AK-47 while bump firing, it will hold very well on airplanes.... It's good stuff! - Joe

i just drip a little epoxy over the back, fule profe the tank area, lock the threads and hold the blind nuts in 3 birds one stone (i no epoxy is brittle and not ideal for thread locking but im not AS paranoid.)

really im just to lazzy to buy some thread lock, even though all it takes is a trip to tower and a credit card...

David,
If you can get to the screws on the nose gear collars, then definitely use the thread lock. Don't use it on control horns though. Thread lock will only work on screws/bolts that are threaded into metal.

I've learned the hard way that that bolts and nuts will vibrate loose in flight .[&o]
