40 LA to a 46 FX... Difference?
I recieved an OS .46 FX for Christmas and I'm planning to put it into my Hobbice Superstar which has a .40 LA in it. I was just curious as to how much I can expect from this engine. I am also wondering if I am going to need to do anything as far as balancing the plane.

ehhh more power ofcourse. LA has no ballbearings, the FX does and has more cc's. And for balance you will have to see how much grams they both are. If you don't have the manual look it up on the OS website. And if so you may need to move you servo's or accupack or reciever a bit to the back to compensate it.

I had a 40la in my lt 40 and it would barely take off on our grass field. Replaced ti with an os46fx and the takeoff roll is way shorter. You will be much happier with the extra power.

I'm a bit nervous about putting it in, I wasn't sure how big of a performance jump there would be. Would I be able to jump right in and fly with the .46 or should I wait until im bored with the .40?

You can run your new 46 if you want to, just remember that you control the throttle. You want to slow it down, then do so, but if you want to kick it and try some aerobatics, then you will have the power to do what you want.

Exactly what Alec said.
Go full bore on take off, and just watch how quickly you can get it airborne. But once you're up there, pull the throttle back and enjoy the flight.
Think of it this way, your car can go WAY faster than 65, but you don't use that extra power just for tooling down the street.

Ditto to the last 2 posters. You will enjoy the extra ponies. Nothin beats cubic inches (exept cubic dollars). You will appreciate the extra pull when you need to get out of trouble. Enjoy your thoughtful gift.
