Hello Everyone,
I have been wanting to get an RC plan for years and years. I am 32 and I can remember having my mom drive me (too young to drive) out to a local rc airfield to watch the planes. I have wanted to get into this hobby since.
I was thinking about pursuing the Electric or Park Flyer to begin with. I am notorious for buying a bunch of stuff for a new hobby and not completing so I have to be wife concerned here. If I go out and spend a ton of cash, she will kill me. So, I thought I could start off with an easy CHEAP park flyer. What do you all think?
Will a park flyer give me enough taste of the hobby to understand if this is really something I will want to pursue? Is there a hobby debate concerning electrics and gas powered?

Jake and I have been buds for several years now, and we've been talking about getting into the hobby. I'm getting into nitro, and I'm trying to talk him out of buying some silly park flyer and taking out a real plane! He says I'm trying to "con" him into it, lol.
Anyway, I recommended he come here since my experience with this site so far has been great.
Watch out...noobs are on the loose!

Electric park flier will cost you the same, as a glow trainer. But definitely, you can start with Kyosho electric EP CESSNA180R TRAINER M36.
If you have kids (son?) and you have ever done toy cars, boats, and model planes 25 yeas ago, you will be in this hobby for a long time.
Try to explain to your wife, that man could do so many ugly things, that RC hobby is much less harm to the family budget. Just do not start with jets and she will be on your side.

Hi,
Welcome to the hobby, in hear you will hear lots of different advice. I personnaly started with a electric plane, so spent my cash and brought one. The next week i went to the local club and saw the large glow powered war birds, like the Spit and Mustang. Since that day i never flew my electric plane again lol. The sound of glow engines when they roar past above in the sky just made my little electric thing look pitiful. ( No disrepect for the electiric pilots out thier, it just wanst my type of thing i wanted out of this hobby). I guess what you need to establish what your after in the long run. Is it worth spending your money on electric then change your mind as i did within a week.
My advice would be to find your local club/flying field, take a look around, talk to the members as belive me you can learn soo much from others that you would never find in a book. Look at thier planes, see what they fly then make the desicion after that, its no good rushing into buying something you wont use... Maybe they may have a cheap trainer and gear they could sell you, it may be worth asking.
Good luck in whatever you choose, but believe me this is an addictive hobby, i started about 6 months ago and now have a fleet of 15 + Warbirds lol, and still love every min.. (apart from when i nosed dived my ME-109 full power into the ground
) lol

I agree with your buddy, go with glow power. The ammount you will spend on electrics will soon be money down the drain if flying glow planes is what you really want to do.
And like Woodsey said, if you really need to watch the cash flow, you can always start out with a SPAD.

For the PLANS on building that "boogerboy" trainer...
www.spadtothebone.com Look for the Debonair.
It IS a flying election sign
.. take one 4 ft X 8 ft sign... cut up add yardstick and gutter-pipe.... you get 2 airplanes. (about $15 to $20 for 2 airplanes!)
Best for training with a .46. Can handle a .61 with a slightly heavier engine mount.

I vote GWS pico stick and their radio , start with a parkflyer, you can fly in a schoolyard or soccer field, you won't have to pay club dues, and inorder to fly at a club you have to have an AMA card,, another $60 ,,my club fee is still cheap at $35 but thats $100 just to start with that no one else has mentioned to you.....get the radio $150~,,plane $45~.. acouple of battery paks for $20...and have a blast.. I got good service from little shop of hobbies dot com...Rog

That's true, just to start with glow powered planes you wouldn't spend less than $500.
But it worth every penny!
I just started 4 month ago and that's the hobby that brings you busy everyday of the year, if not flying in summer, building in the winter, fixing here and there, adjusting, improving. It's a hobby for those who like to overcome chalenges and to have the hands often durty but mind refreshed.

Well... Glow power package deals for .40 power trainers are down to $285. (for one that is actually worth getting.) Thats radio, engine and the ARF. One at that price even has a guarantee you will solo before you break it if you get assist from an experienced RC flyer. (and I have heard of one guy getting 3 replacement airplanes on that guarantee... cause he smashed em to heck
)
Whatever way you go....
If you don't fly at an established RC flying site... be at least 3 miles from one. These radios can interfere with each other EASILY at 2.5 miles separation if on the same frequency. You don't want to unknowingly cause a model to hit someone. (one reason to fly at established RC club sites... SAFETY for you and other people.)

Hello, I'm new in this hobby, but I am very interested in helicopters. I want some advice in wich helicopter to buy, and what doe I need to start? also I wanted to know what does the word glow means? Can I change a helicopter's appearance, by buying a different cabin?
If I buy a chopper, can you tell me if Iit needs to do some improvements. Tell me everything that I need to know. I hope that a experienced person answers me.
Thank you very much.

Check the helis forum...
You can (i think) change the appearance by changing the heli body. Glow means Glow engine, it burns this fuel, it is Not gasoline. I think glow is da best!

I recently got my brother-in-law flying and it was pretty economical for him. I built him a Sig seniorita with an OS 25fx and a hitec flash 4 radio plus a used starter, field box, battery and other equipment for $330 complete.
