Default Balsa sheeted foam wings vs regular type ?

Im looking at a trainer by kyosho-- it has Balsa sheeted foam wings. . .

I'm a beginner too. Are these better than the regular wings, like found on the avistar or alot of other trainers ?

Are these stronger or weaker in general-- Recomment for them or against etc ... ?

Well, opinions vary as to which is lighter, but foam wings have been in use many years and are very strong. Think Surf Board.

They are also fairly easy to repair. Bottom line is that the wing will be fine and you have nothing to worry about if that's the trainer you want.

I personally dislike foam wings. I do not want to go to the hassle of sheeting one or using a cutter to make a core. I like wooden standard construction. Having said that the foam wing is very strong if done right. It is also easy to fix. Easier than traditional wood. I read here that foam tends to be a little heavyer than traditional wood. Kyosho has a rep for building a decent plane. I personally would not be afraid to buy and use one. I say use the foam and you should have no problems.

The foam core wings are bit heavier... but they are stiffer, stronger and will have a more accurate airfoil over the entire span.

There are trade-offs and the main one here is weight for strength. The foam filled sheet structure is rock solid. It is fairly rare to see a foam core wing fold up in flight. (unless you are REALLY abusing the model...)
