I just bought a futaba 6EXA within the last month for my primary radio, and installed it in my cub.we have flown it twice at two different days and it worked flawlessly.....I charged the plane the night before with the wall charger and when we arrived at the Field it seemed it wasnt charged because the plane had the jitters, so we thought it was the radio at first but my Friend has the same channel as mine so we tryed his on it and it did the same thing. .....I had bought a hobbico quick Field charger and i think that maybe I've been charging my plane to often due to the volt watch meter that i installed to keep an eye on the charge.is it possible that i shortened the term of the battery due to over charging or simply buy just being over cautious charging it..... and how many flights can i get from the battery in one day?could i leave the plane on and drain the battery so that it can relearn and then charge it over night... your comments would be appreciated THANKS BILL

There is another thread here talking about Nicd batteries, it is called
"Battery cycling, something something...." sorry I cant remember the complete title.
There is a lot of discussion there about this type of problem.

With the Hobbico charger, don't charge your pack if the pack is near full charge. It may view the pack as a higher cell pack and start charging it at too high a voltage. If a 4 cell pack is fully charged, the charger may think it is a 5 cell pack!

If I have understood you. You say the radio is about a month old and you have flown it twice before. How many times have you charged it? What did your battery checker tell you at the field?
Even if the charger had been left on permanently then you should not have damaged your batteries to that extent (providing you normally use a trickle charger). If you constantly use the quick charger you might want to 'cycle' it a couple of times with the trickle charger.
Fully draining the battery is not really recommended.
How many flights you can get depends on the capacity of your battery. A 700mAh or 800mAh battery will last a fair while with a four or five servo plane. (if I don't have my battery checker I limit myself to about four or five flights to be on the safe side).
It sound like you have another problem to me. Were you flying from the same field? Were both transmitters on at the same time? Did you try your transmitter on your friends plane? If both transmitters are know to be serviceable then the problem lies with your plane. Was the engine running? What have you done with your receiver antenna? Can you try a different crystal in the receiver?
Don't want to throw you off the scent but it could be many things other than the battery.
Let us know what you find.

You said his did the same thing? try his Rx pack and see what it does. I am more apt to bet that you have some jittering from over charging going on. I would leave it on and let it work down a bit and see what it does. Check that your antenna is laid out right and not right on the servos. Is the rec wrapped in foam and the bat too? How are you connections. Check all that stuff. You couldn't have hurt it in 2 weeks. Don't quick charge it unless you need to though.

thanks guys for the replies and it gives me something to look for,i will mention i did take the recever out sense last post to inspect the antenna lead making sure it was not hitting any thing.and did notice that when installed it at the tail using and end from a servo arm i must have nicked the antenna with the screw you can see copper, also the transmitter sits just above my rear bolt on my landing gear, witch i circumcised do to the length. i packed the rec, in the foam and my battery pack sit forward of that just above the front bolts.i will keep you posted on what may comes of this.will that nick in the antenna to screw cause trouble?...............thanks Bill...........fly on

hey bill! I bet that screw nicking the antenna was the problem. with all your equipment out of the plane, do a range check like we did at the pond, with your antenna collapsed. i bet you wont see any jitters. also check and make sure the screw didnt completely go through all of the copper, that would shorten the antenna length and be very bad. call me and let me know...

Something no one has mentioned is that very often (Especially with fully charged batteries) having the Tx too close to the Rx will cause jitters.
Before you do anything drastic, turn everything on and walk a few feet away with the Tx and see if it stops.
PS, I seriously doubt that the nick in the antenna is causing any problems.
