Can epa be used for your control throws,for instance my cub recommends
aileron ( 1/2"up,1/4"down)
elevator (5/8"up,5/8"down)
rudder (1-1/4"right 1-1/4"left
i set my radio up this way with epa but i have not flow it yet but all the measure ments are right on this way,they state in my plains the plane will handle more gently,of course they figure your not using your radio to do this but adjusting servos and clevises. is this what EPA is for ?

Yes, that is what the EPA settting is for. Generally, you want to get pretty close with the mechanical setting. Use EPA to fine tune. Do NOT use a long arm on the servo and then turn the EPA down a whole lot to get reduced throw. If you do this you are sacrificing resolution and not fully using the power of your servo.

You use D/R when you need more control surface movement to do aerobatics or maybe you need more throw for takeoff or landing. But, you don't want to fly around with that much throw so you put it on a D/R switch.

You use dual rates when you want to be able to change the amount of deflection of the control surfaces while the plane is in the air. You may want less throw to take off and land, and more throw to fly.

Dual rates are great for when you want to be SMOOTH. the normal rate, would be the 100% (+/- 5% if possible on the computer... its just better that way) Then the alternate would be as low as 30%. Take off at full throws and turn the dual rate on for high speed runs where full throw would rip a wing off.

Or for the 3D guy... the tamer rate woud be where he takes off and lands "trainer style" and the higher rrate would be the all-out maximum throws for the extreme maneuvers.

Or... you can just program exponential to make the center of the stick "soft" and still have full throw available. (my norm is to use this... normal rate is 100% throw ,no expo, DR turns on the expo, still 100% throw.)

You normally don't use EPA on the flight control surfaces... EPA is more normally used with throttle to allow you to get full throttle and idle shut-off wihtout having to spend 2 hours messing with linkages to prevent the stupid servo from binding. on the carb's stops.

So we are talking about 4 different things here....

EPA (end point adjustment)

ATV (adjustable travel volume)

DR (Dual Rates)

Expo (Exponential control response to stick position)

I use ATV when I have a servo that buzzes at full input on the Tx. Sometimes it's nearly impossible to set things up so you get max throw on the servo. The best use for ATV/EPA is throttle though.

It's always best to get things as close as possible mechanically before doing anything with the computer.

i find dual rates dangerous and really not worthwhile. (I don't use them on my 3d planes even, some have close around 65 degrees of elevator travel!)

the problem is that now the flight envelope of the plane changes with different rates. Instead, use expo, lots of it if needed, and better yet if you have a radio that allows dual expo settings instead. you still have the full throw of the servo if you need it, but plenty easy to fly around in normal flight
