Default Carl Goldberg Eagle2 with .25FX

What do you guys think? Will it have enough power to be fun? It's rated .29-.45

I'm looking for .25 size ARF (trainer) , searched google and I'm having a hard time finding a trainer. Any suggestion?

uum i think it will be way underpowered. Theres an old racing adage called "There's no replacement for displacement."

Although planes are not cars, I think the same thing applies if you want some more performance out of your plane so that you wont have to upgrade engines when you want more aerobatics.

The eagle2 would be way underpowered with a .25 engine. Try the sig LT25 with your .25fx. That should be a good combination.

Hmmm... I think he already had one of these untill it met its demise with a light pole

After checking other posts, I see that you are correct. He at least CLAIMS to have tried to fly an LT25.

The Eagle 2 willl fly ok on a 40 and even better with a 46. You would be lucky to get it off the ground with a 25. [8D]

What prop are you planning on running on the 25? If the 25FX can turn a 10x5 at a reasonable speed, you might have a chance of flying with it; of course it depends on your definition of fun......

While the .25FX could probibly fly it, you won't like it. You'll be at full power most all the time, and acrobatics (even a simple loop) will be really hard to do. And you'll need to make all kinds of noise to do it, since you're going to need to wind the motor up to some serious RPM numbers. Totally not worth the effort.

However, if you do try it, a 9x4 prop is going to be the way to go. I'm running some OS .25 FX's in my combat planes. 9x4 MAS prop, mousse can muffler, 19k+ rpm isn't out of the question. Great for roaring around chasing other planes, but not great for a trainer.

Oh, it also depends on how high you are from sea level. If you are a couple thousand feet up, forget it. Being closer to sea level will help. So will colder, denser air. Summer in Denver would be right out.

My Eagle 2 has plentyof power with an OS 40LA. The LA series are well known to be weak engines. My 40LA is probably not much stronger than the 25FX. I'd say it will fly OK, but just barely. You may have trouble getting off a grass runway. Once airborne it should be OK as a trainer.

Binary,

I am learning on a Eagle 2. It has a Tiger Shark .46BB that I was given(along with the plane and radio, so I got a good deal) It flies GREAT and glides even better
