Default u-can-do 46-- engine question !?!?

I have an irvine .53 engine (2 stroker) adn really would like to get a U-Can-Do .46--
How do you guys think this would work ? I'm on a really limited budget adn already have a really nice running irvine .53 ,

If you think that this combo is no good can you suggest a really good plane for the engine as a second plane/itermediate plane.

I dont really care for the sig 4 star-- the super sportster looks ok-- but I liek the style of the Venus, U-Can-Do- etc

ANy help would be appreciated. I would really like to hear form someone who has this combo.

I flew my u can do .46 quite a while on the irvine .53. great combo, and in fact there wasn't much of a change when I went to a saito .72 instead. it will hover on that engine, with some room to pull out, but not alot. I think you will quite happy though with it, it flew great!

Irvine 53 and a UCD should be dandy. I do not have a UCD, not my kind of plane. I have 2 53's they are nice. I have seen other people post on this combination and like it. Good luck with whatever plane you end up with.

Also check out the Hanger 9 twister! Its the same size as the modeltech magic but can hadle up to a .58 2 stroker. Also it will hover on a .40. The best part ITS ONLY $99.99!

There is not much difference between the Irvine 53 and the Irvine 46. The 53 is 13.91 oz and the 46 13.74 oz so nothing in it really except the 53 is 1mm taller due to the stroke. I do not have a UCD but would agree the 53 should make a good combination.

I have a GP Super Sporster 40 with an Irvine 46 and it flies beautifully. Worth considering. Should be awesome with the 53.

Then you'll want to experiment a bit with props...

If 3D is the goal... long low pitch is the prop. The longest, lowest pitch widest blade prop the .53 will swing will give the best hover and torque roll results.

The U-Can-Do is capable of decent speed too... but you can't have both top speed and maximum 3D performance. We don't have in-flight variable pitch propellers. (yet... someone will make one work eventually. There have been plenty of adjustable pitch model propellers... just none in-flight adjustable.)

I've seen a U-Can-Do .46 with a .61 2-stroke on... he had it propped for speed. (which is not a good idea with that large of an engine... flutter is a constant problem) His 3D performance was very poor, even though the model is very light. Simply the wrong prop.

I've been considering the Venus too. I'm really not a huge fan of 3d- I guess I'm looking for something to helpme migrate towards entry level pattern stuff.

What do you guys thing about the venus or other similar priced planes ?

For "migrating" toward Pattern... the Goldberg Tiger 60 will work well. It can do the full Sportsman pattern easilly. It tracks very nicely when trimmed out and balanced for the task.

The Sig Four Star 60 works also... but needs a little more weight. (maybe clip the wings a bay each side...) in order to improve resistance to wind gusts bouncing it around.

There are several new ARF's intended for intro level Pattern, most of these range from $150 to $250.

Here is one example: http://www.hobby-lobby.com/skylark.htm Reports on this one are very good so far.
