What is the best way to cut the hole for the radio switch?
The other plane I assembled had the mounting hole already cut.
Their is no instructions in the radio or the kit instructions?
cutting with a hobby knife would be tough. Can you drill
a hole then shape it out with a file?

Well it depends, are you using a switch mount ? dubro makes a great switch and charge mount jack all in one, as well as great planes , and a few others, if not just use the mounting plate as a guide trace the inside square and cut very carfuly with xacto knife drill holes for mounting screws and done.
Good Luck
Yes you can cut small square hole and enlarge, but I think you will be happier with the prev. mentioned switch jack combos they come with templates and not to expensive.

CRASH i do mine like this,i separate the two halfs and hold the out side cover in place were i want it i then use my 1/32 drill bit by hand and start by drilling the holes for the srews, then i install the screws only using them for a guide at this point and use the drill with the bit. the balsas so thin you just trace it out by following the inside of the switch plate.blow off dust and install.

just a suggestion, mount the switch so ON is towards the back of the plane. hate to have something kicked up by the prop on takeoff and turn your switch off for you... nothing worse then a well trimmed, fully fueled plane taking off and flying in the wild blue yonder with absolutely zero control.

First of all mount your switch on the oppisite side of the fuse to the engine exhaust to avoid having it covered in exhaust residue. What thickness of wood are you mounting to and is it balsa or ply? If it is more than 1/4 thick I would use the Dubro or GP mount as suggested before by taurus02914.

Just a note. When using a switch mount (I do as often as possible), set it so that when you push the outside"Button" in you turn the radio ON. This will help with an inadvertant turn on. If you bump it the worst that happens is the radio batterys go dead. Better than a take off with the radio switched off.

I took off the switch cover (as aforementioned), positioned the switch where I wanted it, and just screwed it on with the cover screws. I mounted mine vertical.
