Spiking the TX is considered unsportsman like, and will draw a 15yard penalty every time. You're supposed to hand the TX to the ref after a "touchdown".

I don't use the neckstrap.
I used to use it, but it had a tendency to "put the radio on", and then lean over, and almost stick the antenna in the prop.
I instruct once in awhile, and I use the pass the transmitter method (that's a whole 'nother discussion).
I also use a lot of body english when I fly, in fact, I couldn't stay inside of a 10'X10' area. A neckstrap is in the way.

The neck strap is perfect for extra security against dropping the transmitter when you gotta... you know... scratch something.

I have always used an after market neckstrap. The ones that come with the radios are too narrow. It is my observation that pilots who fly thumbs do not use a neckstrap and people who fly fingers do. My style of finger placement is for the thumb to rest on top of the ststick and the next finger lies to the side of the stick. All my servo are set for maximum throw around center stick position.
No matter where I fly the thumbers are in the majority and we finger flyers call them stick bangers. It all boils down to who taught you to fly. Finger flyer instructors are defintely in the minority.

Hi all,

Just to add my two-cents:-)

I do not use a strap or tray.. While training I started using a strap. but
quit using it after watching a video on learning to fly.. And they were saying
that for beginners it "May" be better to not use any holding device so as to
help prevent over controlling of the sticks???? It did help me, after going
back to just holding the Trans, And using two fingers.. But I must admit I
have been thinking about the tray now..

At the field this weekend we were talking about this, one of the guys was telling us about this guy who was taxiing to the runway, no neck strap, he tripped dropped the tranny , plane went to full throttle battery came out of tranny, the plane did a 180 and headed back to the pits, the plane was grabbed by the tail as it try'd to climb over the logs in front of pits , a neck strap woulda prevented this, even if you have some slack in it if you like to hold it.

That's kinda funny. I've had students who used the thumbs method and were over controlling badly, now matter how much I tried to stress small smooth movements.

Then I suggested they try a two-finger grip, and the over controlling went way down. Different things for differnet people, no surprise there.

I use the strap but I fly w/ my thumbs to, the strap just feels more comfortable, espesically since I have a big old 9 Channel Expert Tx. I have flown my uncles plane with a smaller Tx w/out it, but I feel more comfortable w/ it w/ mine.

I used a neckstrap just the other day. It came in real handy when i crashed and one of my flying buddies was laughing........guess thats why they call it a neckstrap because it will fit real tightly around a fellow flyers neck and takes the stress out of hand work when strangling someone. LOL

Hey

Since I used a neck strap for the first time, im usingit every time I fly... Im flying 3d and I have to move my switch on the big transmitter and sometimes and can't reach them. Lol
A neck strap or a tray is very helpful and should be a necessary tool...

Thanks

Prevents that one type accident I saw... Guy launched his TX instead of the airplane in the other hand. [X(] Good launch... about 20 yards.[&:]

I use a strap. I find it more relaxing on the thumbs, easier to flip switches, and my palms are less sweaty !

Good Luck I am 5'11" and the following is good for me, it still has some room but not for a 6'6" guy.

I used the stock ones that came with Futaba TX they were really uncomfortable for me and stoped using them , then I got a http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXH485&P=ML

Which was comfortable and been using it with my 9CAP for 1 month and I am pretty happy with it

Ah yes. A horrible situation. Strange that your body only itches when you can't scratch back...
