Default Question about CA hinges

The CA hinges that connect the aileron to the wing that I am putting together are octagon shape with a slit in the middle of them. This is a replacement ARF trainer wing for the original RTF wing that I destroyed in a wreck. It is also my first time attempting to build anything ( if you want to call this building ), other than doing minor repairs to my plane due to rough landings and what not.

My question is when putting the CA hinges in, does the small slit in the hinge run parallel with the wing and aileron, or perpendicular? It does not say anywhere in the directions. I'm assuming that the slit runs parallel, therefore giving the aileron a little more flex, but it looks like it would make the hinge weaker between the aileron and wing as there is only a little bit of actual hinge on each sides of the slit holding the two together. Then again, there are four hinges for each side of the wing, so maybe thats enough??? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Tim.

The slit runs perpendicular to the trailing edge of the wing/leading edge of the aileron.

The slit is to allow the CA adhesive to run deeply into the hinge slot to make sure all parts of the hinge are glued in.

It is a good idea to "pin" the hinges into place after gluing them. Drill a hole through the wing and hinge then glue a piece of toothpick or small dowel into the hole. These hinges have been known to pull out in flight, and the airplane spontaneously reverts to kit form.
This is known as a "spontaneous reversion".

You may have not built a kit yet, but you seem to be doing okay with repairs. Don't beat yourself up too much over it. Some guys won't consider doing hinges.
