i have just learn't a hard lesson tonight. i bought a new futaba 7 channel receiver and a 1700 mah battery last week to go in my stuka. i balance it up today and it was nose heavy. i decided to move the r/x and battey towards the back. everything went in ok so i hooke the battry up to the switch, next thing i had a fire all my servo wires, on/off switch and battery wires burnt out i dont know if the receiver is damaged too. when i looked at the battery the sticker the LHS put on it said JR/hitec now im not sure what to do. should i go back to the store with the plane and battery and try to get them to sort out the damaged this made? is it the battery that caused the problem?. any help would be appreciated. thanks paul. CHECK THE LABEL BEFORE INSTALLING ANY NEW ELECTRICS.

Pauluk2w,
I don't know if the battery was the cause of the fire, but if it was, I am of the opinion that LHS should replace all the components that were damaged. Mistakes happen, but the "expert" who sold you the parts should know--it is their business to know or to say, "I don't know".
I do believe that they should be made aware of their mistake. Think of what might have happened if you just plugged it in and left for a while. We aren't talking about just a little plane any more.
I would be surprised if they offered to fix your plane though.
Good luck getting it sorted out.

Did the LHS sell it to you as a matching set? If so, it's their fault.
However, like Time Pilot said, I'd be surprised if they offer to fix the plane.
Ditto on the good luck. Sorry [

i bought the receiver and the battery at the same time so they should have known. now i am going to have to spend a lot more money to repair this. and it will take a few days for the burns on my hands to heal. electrical burns (even minor) take a lot more time to heal.
the way i am thinking right now im gonna take it in and wrap the plane around the old guy that sold me this battries neck[:@]

While it does sound like the battery was the culprit, it's not because it says Hitec/JR. Futaba, Hitec, and JR; whether it is batteries, RX, TX, or servos, are all cross compatible.

Most probably not the battery nor the receiver fault. Human error. I'll bet you had a generic connector on the battery (will plug in either way) and you plugged it in backward. Futaba receivers have what I call a design flaw, on the battery slot only, the center conductor is tied to the signal (outside lead) by printed circuitry on the receiver printed circuit board. If you plug a battery in backwards, instant short which results in charred wires, lots of smoke and melted insulation. In my opinion, this is the dumbest thing Futaba has ever done. Had you plugged the battery into any other slot, no harm would have been done--the system would just not have worked. If you were lucky, the receiver wasn't harmed although it might have been. Take the board out of its case and look for burned out wiring at the battery connector slot. If all looks okay, you are probably safe to use it.

talked to the owner at the hobby store and he sai he wants me to take it in so he can look at it. he said even if the connector was put in the wrong way this should not have happened. at least he did say he will have a look at it and see what he can do for me. another friend said that jr, futaba and hitec are all the same as you guys said, but there has to have been a fault somewhere as for this to happen like it did there was a short to ground

the guy at the hobby store has replaced all electrics in the plane. i.e new receiver, servo's amd battery. it turned out that there was a fault somewhere on the battery. the owner tested it using a voltmeter and it tested perfect, but as soon as it was hooked up to any switch it started getting really hot. so i want to say thanks for all help that has been given to me.

Glad this all turned out well for you. I would say that the local hobby shop guy is a keeper. He sounds like a stand up guy, worth supporting. Good luck with the Stuka.

I agree with the last post. This is an exceptional hobby shop. You should make a point of recommending this place to everyone you meet.
I'm glad everything turned out well for you.
