Finally got the engine started. This thing is supposedly set at factory. They musta been drinkin chinese rice wine or something because the stupid thing wouldn't start. I turned the high needle completely off and then turned it 3 full turns open. Finally started and I let it run for 10 seconds and then gave it full. I get full throttle at a few clicks past the mid throttle point on the TX (yes, I checked the carb opening to make sure it was full open). I can hold it full verticle (180) up and down and it doesn't miss a beat. But, when you go back down to idle and then give a little gas, it'll cut out unless you fool with the throttle trim. I've had the throttle trim almost all the way up which feels like its too many rpms' but when I back it down, the engine quits. I'm new to glow but I didn't have any problems runnin in my OS .46 AX. Does it sound like a low needle adjustment? If so, which way? Clockwise or counter-clockwise? This engine don't seem to put out as much as the OS .46 Thanx in advance!

It does indeed sound like the low speed needle. Does it die suddenly when you open the throttle, or does it sputter a bit, then croak?

Does sound too lean on low end.
Without being there to hear it, try counter-clockwise first about 1/8th or 1/4 first. I think to richen is to back it out.

Thanx for the replies. I will try and turn the low end needle a tad counter clockwise (which would be open).
And then give it a whirl. According to the ads, these engines are supposed to kick....but from what I seen so
far, it doesn't have the output of my OS 46. I guess I'll have to re-adjust a little the high needle right if I adjust
the low end?

If it sputters before it dies, it is too rich on the low speed needle. In that case turn it clockwise.
You will have to adjust both needles, possibly more than once -- they are interactive.

Patience is the key. Make only one adjustment at a time and repeat the throttle tests several times before making any more changes. The slow needle on this engine has been fairly sensitive to adjust on mine, but I have found patience to be the key. Mine just seems to run easier all the time. Yours may (like mine has) taken a little run time to get happy. Mine now starts within about 3 flips virtually every time, and it will now idle down to 2000 and lower without fail. Even the transition, which used to drive me nuts, has become almost undetectably smooth. It used to cough and sputter quite a bit, making missed approaches sketchy. Now that it has about 2 gallons of fuel through it, I find it to be reliable to the point where I can do things that I wouldn't normally try. You will have to unlock the collar with the pin on it if you are going to make major adjustments. I found that mine would see a noticeable difference within just the width of the pin on adjustment. Just make sure that you count the turns in to seat it if you remove the collar before you make the first adjustment with the collar off.

Got this figured out. The low end needle was set at fully closed!!!!! [:@] Aren't these supposed to be pre set at factory?
I actually took it to the hobby shop and the guy there took off the adjustment point ring and used a piece of silicon tube and blew into to the carb. He made an adjustment to the low end and we started it up. Half turn towards lean on the high needle
and the engine made good transition from low to high and idled well. The guy told me the "blowing" method works about 95% of the time provided you know what your hearing (air going thru the carb) and how much needle movement is needed.

Dave,
Glad to hear you got it figured out. I think you'll really like the engine even more once you get a gallon or more through it. Once properly set up and run in, the Evo 46 has got to be one of the better bargains around.

Nice to see you found someone that could use a common sense approach to finding and curing the problem. You will come to appreciate the engine in the future. Run some fuel through it , and you will gain some respect for it. Have fun!

Thanx all. Am going to run it today at the field and even fly it in a Twist. We've had rain here for a few days so the "flying itch" has been
bad!!!! I run a OS .46 AX in a Hangar 9 Arrow that flies pretty darn good. Figured I'd try the Evo to see what all the fuss is about.
Now all I have to do is find something a bit bigger for the U Can Do 3D 46 I have....
