Default PT-20

I just got a Great Planes PT-20 as a gift and was wondering what the thoughts of some others were on this plane. I do not yehave a radio or engine. I have built planes and wooden ship models before so I do not think I should have any trouble there. What about good engines and flying charistics though.

The GMS 25 engine should be a good match for this plane.

Build the "B (Sport) Wing" with ailerons. That way you'll learn to use ailerons and rudder from the beginning. I have the PT-60 and it is a great trainer. The smaller plane will have to stay closer to you so you can see it.

Before you choose a radio, it would be a good idea to find an instructor and get his or her input. Your transmitter will need to be connected to a 'trainer box' and some brands are not compatible with each other.

The entire PT series are good fliers. They are great kits as well. As to power, an Irvine 25 is a goodie. AnMVVS 28 would posativly yank that puppy around. Enya makes a good 25. I read the OS 25 LA is actually a decent moter, but that is just what I have read. K&B,Thunder Tiger and Magnum also make decent smaller engines. And lastly I hear that the Norvel 25 is a decent engine. My choice would probably be the Irvine. Good luck with the plane.

Where can I buy MVVS engines. I've been looking through the forums and they seem to have a good rep but I only found a English shop that sells them.

I would afirm most of the above HOWEVER I have seen some GP PT 's with questionable wing strength(no reinforcement fiberglass on center section) & resulting in folding after dozen flights. also the angle of attack on the wing is quite a lot & If I recall the wing tips are excessively "washed out" to counter tip stall. this results in it flying on less wing than if it were built more along the lines of othe flat bottom trainers.
