I am going to fly my trainer with an instructor for the first time tomorrow. I have foam tires on my plane. I heard that foam tires make the plane bounce on landings more. WOuld it be better to get a different kind of tire so the plane would stick landings better?

You didn't say exactly which brand of foam tires, some are designed to be low bounce. Anyway, the pilot is a more important factor than the type of tires. Don't worry about the tires, the way you land it, actually your instructor will probably do all the landings right now if you learn at the speed of most of the rest of us, will control the bounce.
Good luck!!!

I'm a believer that the landing gear itself has the potential to cause way more bounce than the tires ever will.
Both of which is negligable.
I guess what I'm sayin is "don't sweat it."

If you get a pretty good bounce out of it just hit the throttle and go around again. Don't forget to yell "Touch and Go."
People will never know the difference. They'll think you planned it.

Is the RC field grass or hard surface?? If the the field is grass, then the size of the wheels is more important than the type. Some kits come with larger wheels than others. Our club uses 3" wheels as a "good standard" for the mains. Smaller wheels tend to try to push through the grass instead of rolling over it. Some trainers use a front whel that is 1/4" smaller than the mains. In that case, use 3" wheels for the mains and 2 3/4" for the front steering wheel. If all 3 wheels are the same size then get all three wheels 3". I prefer the light weight types such as Sullivan Sky Lites or Dubro diamond Lite. 3 of these weigh less than 1 standard wheel. They are a few dollars more but the weight savings makes it worthwhile.

We have a gravel runway. I used regular wheels because they looked nicer but they pushed the gravel ahead and it couldn't get off the ground. Went to foam wheels because they had a flat surface that contacts the ground. Just rode up and over the bumps. Wheels aren't the difference in smooth landings. The nut that holds the sticks causes the bumps.
