Default Fuel Proof Clearcote

I am in the process of painting my Cub 1/5 by Sig. I have painted the the fuse with Rustoleum primer, Rustoleum enamal white & lusterkote sky blue. I want to fuel proof the paint with a clearcote. I picked up a clearcote by Rustoleum called "Crystal Clear Enamal". does anyone have any experience with this clearcote? also what would ya'll recomend as a clearcote that is in spraycan form. Thanks for the help.

I don't know for certain if the Rustoleum clear coat is fuel proof (resistant ). Some of their stuff is and a lot isn't. To be sure do a test panel.

Before you apply ANY of the clear coats do a test panel first. The clear coats MAY NOT BE COMPATIBLE with the paint. (The enamel/lacquer thing ).

FWIW - MOST ACRYLIC enamel and ACRYLIC lacquer are fuel proof (resistant )

The only exception I have encountered to this has been a WATER BASE polyurethane. 2 coats of this is fuel proof (resistant ) to 10% nitro. It may be more, but all I use is 10%. MinWax does sell spray cans of this. Make sure it is the water base. The oil base WILL YELLOW over time, however, the waterbase does not yellow.

Hope this helps.

Klass Kote epoxy clear and 2-part auto urethane are both very fuel proof. The auto urethane is very expensive and extremely dangerous. Klass Kote is good stuff and I recommend it.

Have care when applying LustreKote over Rustoleum. They even advertise LustreKote now as a lacquer. The only Fuel proof Rustoleum I've found so far is gloss white and LustreKote will eat right through it. I won't use Rustoleum primer any more either. I use Krylon on all my sailboats and LustreKote when they are nitro powered. For Airplanes I choose LustreKote primer and paint or Coverite. I have an airboat that is white Rustoleum but had to put all the decorations on with Monokote trim colors because LustreKote ate through the Rustoleum.
