Hello my name is Ed,
My first plane was a Falcon 3. I was flying it and the wing ripped through the nylon bolts. It Came down into the ground like 100 mph it was totaled. So I bought an avistar (ARF) I had it for about 2 -3 yrs. Its already been up in a tree and I had to call a tree climber to get it. Im a Beginner/intermeidiate. I gettin a little bored of this plane so I want to get a another plane in the catagory of a Begginer/intermeidiate plane. I like the avistar but i want a little more aggressive kind of plane, what do you recommend for me?
Thanks

Sounds like you have some experience with the high wing trainers. I'd go for a low wing trainer like the Goldberg Tiger 2. 40 size.
I have one (look at my avatar) and it has an OS .46 AX in it. Flies great!!! And, it'll handle some wind unlike high winged planes.
The Tiger 2 runs about $140 or so...has trike gear but you can make it into a taildragger.

a 4* 40 would also be a good choice for a second plane. I'm gonna build mine this winter. ( Been flying my avistar for one season.) It has pretty much the same flight tendencies as the Tiger 2 (From what I've been told.) and costs a little less, but not much. The four star is also a tail dragger if you want to go in that direction. Either way, either one of these planes would be a good choice. I went by the one I thought looked the best. Up to you. Good luck

How can anyone get bored with an Avistar? Aside from that, a Great Planes Ultra Sport, stuffed full of healthy engine, is a great first sport & sort-of 3D flier -- and a great second one as well.

Hey Eddie, I had an Avistar and was getting to where I wanted to move up. I started flying a 4*40 that I built from a kit but found that since I had spent so much time building it I was too worried about crashing it to really have fun with it. I bought an Ultra Stick 40 for $119.00 and put an O.S. 70 on it and OH MAN! This plane is a kick to fly. It goes where you point it, has lots of low end grunt, and can fly slow or fast and is capable of lots of 3D/aerobatic type flying. Best plane I've flown yet.............

if your bored with your trainer, you will be bored with a 4*. the tower hobbies chaos is a good plane, but it has junk covering. why not try a pattern plane?

I suspect that "try" would be a very significant part a pattern plane "experience" with his level of training
. But then again, he may be more than ready for it.

The Tiger 2 is a great Idea (I have the 60 sized) but if you don't want to spend much money then do this:
1.) Convert it to taildragger
2.) Cut Dihedral out of wings so they are FLAT
3.) Move CG back
4.) Enlarge The Rudder
5.) Enlarge the Elvators
6.) Enlarge the Ailerons
7.) Switch to two aileron servo's
8.) Install Bigger engine (Super Tigre 51 is GREAT)
9.) Install a bigger Dia. Lower Pitched prop and try all the aerobatics you can think of until you can do all of them(Within Avistar limits)
10.) Drop Wing down in fuse so that its a Midwing.
11.) Recover it..
12.) Tow Sailplanes with it.
There's still plenty you can do with your trainer. I'm Flying a Tiger 60 and soon an Ultra Stick Lite But still fly my trainer almost everytie I go fly. Don't be in a hurry to get rid of it.. Regards, Cody

By all means get one from your list -- just don't ditch the Avistar. I guarantee that you will go back to it time, & time again.

What size engine is on the Avistar?? If its a low power 40, then no wonder you are bored with it. Throw an OS 46AX or one of the 56 sized engines on it and it will become a whole different animal with tons of speed and unlimited vertical!!! I think you will find a new appreciation for the plane!
