Default futaba 6exa??

i was told this transmitter wouldent work on a slow stick cuz of the micro servers. do they make a micro server transmitter? for the slow stick. i was thinking about getting one, but thought that if i bought a transmitter, i would buy one for the future so i wouldent have to buy a transmitter every time i upgraded. is there a universal transmitter that would fufill that need?

If you mean receiver(rx)? then someone told you wrong,, Tower has the Great planes mini rx for like $25 for parkflyers then you buy the crystal (xtal) for $10 to match your transmitter (tx) you can have as many rx as you want and fly them all from the same tx as long as the xtal matches, however your radio/tx only has I think 6 model memory...but I thought you could use standard servos on a slow stick......Rog
Transmitter is in your hand
Receiver is in you plane working the servos

Welcome to the insanity......I mean sport.

The 6EXA is a pretty good unit and should do you quite well for a number of years.

This transmitter will work on a Slow Stick. What you do need to make sure of is:

1. The receiver is Futaba COMPATIBLE. HiTec, Tower, Berg and quite a few other receiver brands are Futaba compatible.

2. The receiver is on the same channel and frequency (72 mhz FM ) as the transmitter. For instance, if the transmitter is on channel 11 FM, then the receiver crystal must also be on channel 11 FM. If the receiver is an AM receiver, even if it is on the same channel, it will not work.

3. For OPTIMUM performance and lower weight you should have a receiver made for electrics. This is NOT ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED. Many electrics will handle the weight/size of a standard receiver. I have two electrics that I use standard receivers in - Freedom 3D and a AeroNaut CL-415 Water Bomber (fire fighting).

4. You will also be using "mini" or "micro" servos in electrics. Again, this is to save weight. The typical servo for a Slow Stick would most likely be a HiTec HS-55 (or an equivelant). The standard servos that usually come with a radio are way to heavy for most electrics.

The basic difference in a standard receiver and one for electric is that the standard receiver is typically 7 or 8 channel, dual conversion (signal is checked twice for accuracy before going to the servo) and is heavy and large by electric plane standards, while MOST electric receivers are 4 channel, single conversion and weigh substantially less than a standard receiver and are typically a lot smaller in size.

Since you have not purchased the radio yet I will make a suggestion. Go to the flying field where you will be usually flying or contact your flying club and find out what the LEAST USED channels are. Get your radio on one of those channels. You will minimize your waiting time for the channel to clear so you can fly and you will also greatly reduce the chance of being accidently "shot down".

I hope you will have an instructor. While it is possible to learn to fly without an instructor, an instructor will definitely have you flying SAFELY and in a relatively short period of time. Clubs provide instructors at no charge, however, most clubs require you join the AMA (for insurance purposes) and join the club.

Hope this helps more than it confuses you.

Campy is right, and I left out a few points ,BUT, $90 is a Great buy what does it come with? if youre getting a tx,rx and batteries for both, thats a great buy,,if its just the tx then its not worth it,,Futaba is a good brand a lot of people use I have 2 of them and a GWS, if your just gonna be in parkflyers GWS is a good buy at about $125 for a tx, 2 micro servos, and a small battery, but you need 8AA cells for the tx, so what are you getting for $90?...Rog

First, whoever it is you're getting this information from should be slapped upside the head.
Once you've done that, don't listen to anything else he says.

On to the 6EXA. By now you've already read that it should work with any Futaba compatible receiver on the market. The price you got, $90 is great, if it's for the entire package. However, if it's just the transmitter, it's not such a good deal. You can buy a complete 6EXA package (transmitter, receiver, 4 S3004 servos, charger, rx and tx nicads) for $130 at Tower right now. Even if you don't want the flight pack portion, you can sell it on eBay for way more than the $40 difference.

Don't be heartbroken if you didn't get one then. Like I said, you can buy a complete system from Tower for $130. It comes with standard size (not micro) receiver, battery, and servos. If you think you'll go with glow planes, keep them and buy smaller components for your electric. If not, sell them on eBay. You should be able to get way more than $40. I'd even be interested in buying another flight pack, if you get channel 58.

i have some hs-55's on my 36" electric foamy and use a hitec electron 6 receiver, my tx is the t6xa which is the spitting image of the 6exa but it has more bells and whistles. It might be a positive shift receiver that he was referring to which only work with JR and airtronics i think, make sure its a negative shift reciever which works with Futaba and Hitec tx. You could also get a berg reciever. The electron 6 is a 6 channel receiver considerably light, dual conversion, and is only about 50-60 dollars, im not experienced wiht berg recievers but you could use one of those also

The only point I want to add is this. That transmitter has memory, I believe 6. In other words you can fly up to 6 models of your choosing with the 1 transmitter. No need to buy a new transmitter for each model. You just buy the recievers, batterys, servos as you desire. Micro stuff for park fliers to heavy duty stuff for a 1/4 scale plane. All with 1 transmitter.
