Default High torque starter

I know it is silly to ask this, but I have been looking for a small high torque geared starter for many days with no luck. Can any body refer me to a place where I can buy it?

Thank you.

I have the Kavan with the battery attachment and it turns over a YS 140 with no trouble, A little more $$ but well worth it.

It's not a geared starter, but the Sullivan Dynatron is a great starter, can be used 12 volts or 24 volts if you need even more torque. Mid $40's. It will spin my US-41 on 12V, and a glow engine up to 1.80 isn't even a challenge. There are a bunch of different starter cones available for it, also.

Excuse my newbyness on this question but can't you just attach a Rubber Starting Cone on a existing cordless drill?
Just trying to save myself a buck or 2.

skyman i am sure you can use a cordless drill. Myself i prefer to keep my drill at home. I use a Magnum geared starter from Hobby People. Spent about 35.00 on it at the local Hobby shop. Have used it on a YS110 and all kinds of smaller engines. have not tried it on anything bigger yet.

I think you will find that a cordless drill is too slow to crank anything but a well tuned ,warm engine that could be started with one flip anyway.

I checked out some drills that were converted to starters at our field. They just don't seem to have the torque or speed required. A good Sullivan Torqemaster 90 is cheaper than most and works well. I have started some buddys gas engine with it with no problem.

I've had my Milwaukee cordless drill nearly break my arm when it caught. I use it to raise and lower my pickup truck camper.
It has a 24 volt battery and I can only use the High speed setting with a 1/16 drill dia. or smaller or I quickly burn up the drill.
This is not enough tork and speed to start these engines?

Thats just one of the many. on ebay. If it doesn't have the right clips on the one you buy, They are very cheap to buy the right ones. The batteries are cheap on ebay too!
Thats my 2cents. good luck.

The ones that showed up at the field certainly wern't strong enough. That was a few years ago. The newer drills have better battery capacity so the new ones may work. The one I have is $28.00 at Tower Hobbies. If you can adapt the drill to accept the rubber cone, then thats one thing. If you have to modify the drill to get it to work, then it may just be cheaper to buy the starter. I am sure that the starter is cheaper than your drill.[8D]

I wont mod the drill, but I will try making a cone. I have access to a mill and lathe and tooling so it should be no problem.
I'll let you know how it goes.
