Default Wrinkle Removal

I have a question about removing the wrinkles. Say i have a heat gun, what can i do? How long does it take to remove the wrinkles with a heat gun? What about an iron. THe only thing is, i dont have an iron sock.

You can use either an iron or a heat gun. I prefer the iron. It should only take 10 seconds to tighten the covering over one square foot. With the iron, you rub it smoothly over the area to be tightened back and forth a few times. Over solid areas, you can use your other hand to press the film down with a cloth. Over open areas, just press it down on the ribs.

Ultracote shrinks up alot better than monocote .If you are just learning how to cover I would recommend ultracote it is alot more forgiving .

Well i guess a picture is worth a thousand woards. Check it out. Does it matter for flight if you have wrinkles like these? I mean this is a slow trainer from the tower. I think it should be fine. So just in case you guys are wondering, this is not a kit yet a simple arf question.
THIS IS PROBABLY BAD NEWS. I read the instructions in the book on how to get rid of wrinkles. But whenever i did it, more wrinkles came up. This is probably bad isnt it?

A heat gun works best for me. You have to experiment with the gun (or iron) to find the correct temperature to shrink the coating. It varies from manufacturer to MFR. Monokote, which is what is probablly on your tower trainer, will require a lot of heat. Ultracoat, on the other hand, shrinks up with noticeably less heat. Some of the no name coverings out there will just about melt before they'll shrink any more.

Poke 'em with a needle or something small and sharp the4n go over 'em with a gun or iron. You won't even be able to find where they were.

Wait, when you remove the wrinkles is this what happens? More wrinkles come up, they will al be gone shortly when the Monocote cools down?

Personally I can't stand a plane with a lot of wrinkles or any for that manner, but I have seen raisins show up to the field from time to time and they fly just fine. The amount of wrinkles you have there on your plane is about about what I had on my two arfs and they came out just fine. I used a heat gun and some patience. I don't subcribe to the therory of sealing the covering to every square inch of the plane. Just as on the wing I only seal the covering to the four edges and seams on all the surfaces. Less worry about air bubble as it is distributed across the whole surface. And then one pin hole in the center and that takes care of them.

Use a regular iron. It will get them down VERY quick so be careufl not to hold it too long. Also, Wrinkles WILL NOT hurt your flying long as they are not too bad. Just will creat a small amount of drag
