Default RC Flight schools?

Is there a place where I can pay, say $10, to fly someone elses plane around the sky for 5 minutes? No landing, no takeoff's, loops, rolls, just laps around the airspace. I don't want to pay membership dues, AMA dues etc. I think clubs should host an open-house type event. I'm guessing this kinda thing wouldn't happen at AMA sanctioned flying fields. Someone must be willing to take $2 a minute.

you can fly my trainer. I have one condition, though. If you really like it, and have fun, you have to make an effor to get into the hobby (the only excuse not it would be that you absolutely could not afford it). If you get into the hobby, get AMA membership, and learn to fly properly, then you will owe me NOTHING. If you decide that it's really not for you, then you'll owe me NOTHING. I really like seeing new people have a shot at our great hobby. It's one of the most relaxing things I've ever done, and it's been the one thing that my Dad, Brother, and myself all have in common that we can go have fun and cut up together. I'm not sure where Texas City is, but I'm in east Texas--about 1 hour east of Dallas on I-30. PM me if you really are interested. I have a feeling, though, that Texas city is down around galveston. If that's the case, check out the Houston clubs--there are some great people down there....

FighterBird,

Most clubs DO offer free intro flights. Just show up at the field on a Saturday morning and ask. Even better, go to the club website and e-mail an instructor or executive member. They will likely be more than happy to help you out. You will find that most people in this hobby are anxious to bring new people into their favorite pastime.

You will have no problem finding some free introductory time.

Enjoy!!! I hope you like it and become a student soon.

FighterBird873 has a spad that he wants to fly. He wants to practice on someone else's plane a little before he tries to fly it himself without help. I guess this is OK, at least he will be flying. I do hope he will join a club and AMA eventually and not just fly wherever he wants and shoot somebody down.

Fighterbird873,

If this is true 5 minutes isn't going to help you much!!!! Let someone teach you how fly or If you want to do it yourself then do it yourself without any help or input

Our club sponsors an instrutor fly for the public once a year. Check around and a lot of clubs do have some sort of introductory flights available. I know most guys in our club would take a new person up if they have their trainer with them.

Post #3 is rather telling I think, but we can still give him a chance.

looks like he did not get the advice he was looking for in the SPAD forum so here decided to try this forum.

I wouldn't waste to much with this guy he's going to in and out of this hobby in about a day

Well, good research bruce.

Firebird,
now I have to rescind my offer becuse you obviously have your own airplane to fly, so go fly it. Good luck, and please post in the crash forum.

And that was posted in the SPAD forum, where it belonged. This is the Beginner forum, so I thought this was the place to ask questions and post comments that beginners would find useful. And my comment about being my plane and only I fly it still applies. How does that make it criminal to want to pay someone to fly their plane?

I have been in this Hobby a while, and will be till I die. Its an addiction. I posted in the beginner section because I'm beginning a new type of flying. I've never successfully flown a 4ch glow plane, so I thought of my self as a beginner in that field.

And if you didn't get the hypothetical tone of my original post, you may not get the sarcastic tone of this post.

Fighterbird, clubs do host fun flys where the public is welcome and there is a trainer with an instructor for interested people to try out. Our club does this and if it isn't a funfly event, say just a new guy out checking the hobby, we offer 3 standard 10 minute lessons for free even if you don't have a plane. After that if you want to continue flying at our field we expect you to join the club. I think this only fair.[8D]

FighterBird873- I think you are missing the point, at least mine. If you had come here and asked for help learning to fly YOUR plane, SPAD or whatever, you would have been greeted nicely. In fact you were greeted nicely without all of the facts out in the open. Why your plane is too special to be used for us to help you with, we can't understand and yet you want us to risk our planes to teach you how to fly. If you want to bring your plane to one of the fields mentioned I am sure you could still receive some coaching and if you are willing to let someone actually touch your plane maybe even put it on a buddy box. We took your hypothetical question of an offer to pay for flight time and graciously offered to GIVE it to you and I don't feel this particular discussion is a place for sarcasm. You were not forthright in your post and did not state your true motivations.

The point they are making is you state you do not want anyone to fly your bird but you want someone to lend you their bird for a given amount of money. HUM...

When full scale pilots learn to fly, they learn to fly someone elses plane. And for that risk, they PAY. I wanted to know if there was an RC equivalent of this service. There isn't. My question was answered. Thank you!

FighterBird873-FULL SCALE PLANES ARE INSURED AND YOU PAY A PRETTY PENNY TOO. Enough, enjoy your Spad.

There are 2 places out there that do this but as was already mentioned, 10 dollars is definitely not going to cover it.

I think it's great that you will be in the hobby for a long time.

At this point it is time to let this thread die...

Thanks for the PM. I got the point

I'll still fly ya. My plane, Free. Its an offer to everyone.

I flew a guy a few weeks back on a nexstar. He did very well. He bought a Eflight Funtana, built it, I did one test hop on it. Flew it a second flight and handed him the transmitter (no buddy box) he flew it around and landed the plane. He is now on his 5 or 6th flight now and is 100% solo, doing great.

It just takes a few basics and once you have those, you can be on your own.

Hey I'll fly any1. My plane, your plane any1s plane, just can't be certain of any accidents or crashes..... Hey guys you have to understand some people are sentimental about what they build and others just like to fly. I definately have a plane that hands down no1 will ever fly no matter what, its my baby, on the other hand others can be flown by any1.... Hey fighterbird if I was there you would fly my plane no problem what counts is more people come into the hobby. And as to belonging to a club, well I say if you can fly "SAFELY" without paying and going through all the paperwork and payments a club needs go for it. This hobby was made by the flyers, people that fly anywhere, everywhere, fly on their minds everyday to work, thinking what to build, how to get it flying. It is definately not made by the people who sit and create rules to make our lives a living hell and think up ways to generate money etc etc....

I think a line has to be drawn between professional RC and amateur RC, not every1 has the cash or is sponsored to get a Futaba 14MZ and OS.... Some just get by and have the times of their lives with a Magnum and a Hitec 4 with a SPAD.....

And in the case of helping, I would help any1 no matter how he thinks, in the end I am a better person....

While this thread has had a few negative comments involved, it has shown one thing exceptionally well.....There are many of us out there that are more than willing to help a new guy get started WITHOUT getting paid for it. We do it for the pure fact that we love our sport and want others to enjoy it as much as we do.

Good going guys. Offering to help him try it out and helping him learn is the right thing to do!
