Umm...what do you use to hold the blind nuts in the firewall? 'Cause I used CA glue around and under the blind nuts and it broke...now I just reglued them with 30 min epoxy...

Epoxy works good, just be careful not to get any in the threads.

Just coat the threads with vasoline and use the epoxy.

blind nuts hold in the wood by themselves. Why are you trying to glue them? Just don't push hard on them when you go to put the screws to them.

better safe than sorry. I have used instant glue, but if you want anything to hold, you have to clean them, rough them up, or use a large enough blob of glue to hold it. They are usually smooth, slick and some have oils on them depending on where you got them.

If you ever have one come out and need to replace it, put a piece of yellow nyrod through from the front that will go back till you can reach it that has threaded rod on it and thread the nut on it. Pull it in far enough to hold it, then screw the nyrod off, and put a screw in and suck it up tight till the nut is in. Don't over tighten or you will pull the nut in half.

I do not like blind nuts or T-nuts (same thing) for fastening mount to firewall. The best thing is to use a good old screw/nut/lock washer.
I've never had one come loose but have had screws come loose using blind nuts. Also, I never use self threading screws to mount engine to nylon engine mount. These things come loose all the time. Use machine screw, nylon lined nuts and lock washers.

k thanks guys...the blind nuts kept falling out so I just went to the hardware store and got some 8-32 screws and nuts to bolt on the engine mount...good deal?

You can cut out a balsa or thin ply 'washer' with the center hole just big enough for the screw to pass through and the outside diameter somewhat larger than the blind nut. After you ca the nut where you want it, glue the 'washer' over it and the wood around it. Jim

I have used blind nuts for my models and never had a problem with any of them comming loose. Ca glued of course...easiest way to be certain they stay put!
Never ever use an ordinary bolt and nut to secure a motormount...Its so hard to reach inside the fuselage to hold that nut when fueltank is mounted..and you don't want to remove the tank just because a bolt has come loose ...do you?!

Blind nut are a major pain in the rear! They have a knack for coming out at just the wrong time. I'm thinking on my next build I'll probably epoxy a little donut of ply over the blind nut so it can't possible pop out when changing engine mount bolts.

I did CA the blind nuts...just I crashed so the blind nuts ripped off of the firewall.

For my 8-32 bolts, I was gonna CA the nut in a large hole behind the firewall and screw the bolt through the front then use blue loc-tite 242 to hold it in place...
