Anyone ever buy from red rocket hobby shop? I am thinking about buying a Slo-V for my first plane. Their price is the same as my local hobby shop, but the shipping is less than my local tax. They also are giving me an extra battery for free. Which my local hobby shop will not match. I will save about $25 bucks ordering from red rocket.

I see that you are a dealer. As for me I am not rich. $20.00 means something to me. As for the savings that is business. If you could get a return of $20.00 on a $150.00 investment, would you call that a good deal ??? Or would you pass it by because it was just $20.00 ??? Back to business >>> Competition is what drives American business. We shop for the best price. That is all I am doing. If you have a costumer come in your shop and finds a better deal down the road >>>> you will lower your price to get more business. Thats business.....Sorry if I upset you because I am looking for the best deal. I did not mean to do that... i am just asking for anyone who has used red rocket how they liked the service.

If the govt. could do that, then they already would have. Instead of waiting for uncle sam to find a loop hole to save your business, why don't you become competetive. If 20 bucks isn't that big of a deal, then lower your price by 20 bucks--you make the first move. The consumer will always drive business--it's never the other way around (except, of course, for gasoline which is a whole nother bag of worms).

an extra 20 dollars will get you ONE Air Drop Module: FTB, FBC, ABC, ONE Sonic Combat Module: FTB, FBC, ABC, Almost ONE 7.2V 600 mAh Ni-MH Batt: Slo-V, FOUR Propeller w/Spinner: Slo-V, about NINE Prop Shaft W/Gear: Slo V,about TWO Tail Set: Slo V , About TWO Carbon Fuselage W/Tray: Slo V, about TWO Complete Gearbox: Slo V,ONE Wing Kit: Slo V,about THREE Landing Gear Set: Slo V,about SIX Pushrods W/Clevis (2): Slo V,about 4 Decal Sheet: Slo V,ONE Night-Flight Module: SloV FBC ABC, or/and Two Motor w/Pinion: Slo-V.

Thats what an extra $20.00 would get you. I agree to support your local hobby shop but if your local hobby shop cant beat or match the deal you see online then I say do whats good for you.

dennis -DadsToysBG, Not everyone has alot of money like you. People in china On average get paid 2 dollars an hour for work. The point may not be about the $20.00 but about saving$20.00. I dont think it was nice calling people cheep skates, I think your a rude old grumpy person and show no respect to other people. I dont know how your a super contributer, if anything your a negative contributer that tries to bring people down. Your account on RCuniverse should be terminated for calling not just NTJP a cheapskate but calling everyone else who would have saved the extra 20.00 a "cheepskate".

I forgot to mention, I think you should also apologize to NTJP and hope he accepts.!

I would look at the BBB for any negative input since your original question is not getting answered. I know nothing about them.
One the Bad busines beaurea here on the web and of course the better business.
Type their name in a search engine, usually works for info. Look at the vendors policies.

That was not to belittle or take away in any way the statements above. That cheapskate comment is not welcome here and offensive to me in the beginner forum where beginners come for help.
Knowlegable contributers come here to help the beginners usual.

DadsToysBG how can you say $20 give me a break. I am not out of high school yet so i can't work full time, i have a truck and with gas prices it cost me about $30-$35 a week to drive to school. The only way that i could be in this hobby and also have a truck is to find the best deals. To you $20 isn't alot but to most people it is. I've tryed going to my local hobby shop but it is about $30-40 for Traxxas fuel, we get it cheaper from tower.

Thank you for the info. I didn't even think about using a search engine to find info. also didn't think about bbb for internet. Again Thank you for the help. I did not think saving $20.00 would be such a big deal. Thank all of you who support me in trying to save money.

CHEAP

That's how you spell it. Sorry, but all the "cheep"s in here was making me think of little birds.

As for saving $20, I'd do it. Then I'd go to my LHS (because it's run by a club member) and spend it there. Heck, our club-member-run LHS guy sometimes tells people to just get things from Tower Hobbies. He says that the price will be about the same, and we'd get it faster. Admittedly, this is only for certain items.

And $20 at my LHS would get me two 4.8V 700mAh 4-cell battery packs, or a bunch of props (like 12-15 of 'em). I'd take my savings there and buy some of the extras that it never hurts to have.

As far as knowing what that online shop service is like, sorry I don't know. Just go ahead and get the stuff and let us know how they are.

I will spend my money at my LHS. He has all the parts and supplies i need. The $25.00 I will save will buy me an upgraded battery. That would give me 2 7.4 v bat and a 8v bat. think of the fly time I could have. I am sure I will be buying replacement parts for my slo-v from him also. Don't get me wrong >>> I have spent a lot of time in the shop talking to him about my first plane. He has been very helpful. He is a real nice guy, and I have already seen a plane I would buy from him for my 2nd plane. I maybe CHEAP but I know a dollar when I see it. My thinking is not just in saving, but having the extra money to fix what I break.

All I can say is, walk a mile in the shoes of a hobby shop owner. Apparently most people are not aware of the tiny markup shop owners have to deal with, on top of the fact that unlike most other businesses that attract thousands of customers on a regular basis, RC hobby shops only bring in a tiny fraction of those customers. Dropping the price down $20 would mean little to no profit for the LHS. I actually heard a conversation between a shop owner and a customer asking for a $20 discount on an airplane kit. The shop owner said that if he dropped his prices $20 on that item, he would lose money. After a couple of seconds, the "fugal" customer replied, "sell it to me at that price or I'll just buy mail-order". Believe it or not, hobby shop owners just like all other businessman are in business to make a decent living.

How many RC aeromodeling customers (flying fields/clubs) would there be in a given area?
I've worked with many hobby shops over the years, even though there would be a half dozen flying fields and clubs in a 25 mile radius, only a one or two shop owners would be able to make a reasonable living selling RC, and that would mean selling mostly RC cars and trucks.

Everyone wants to save money, but at the same time they also would like the convenience of a hobby shop being nearby.
Maybe the "fugal" among us should spend a few hours per week hanging around a hobby shop just to see how many RC areomodeling customers come through the doors. BTW, the shops in my area try their best to match mail-order prices, but still see very little RC aeromodeling traffic. A hint to the reason why is that even though there are six very good flying sites in the area, they are for the most part, deserted all flying season.

Take care,
CCR

I've seen hobby shops list prices on planes at lower level than tower and they do very well. I live in Illinois so I still pay taxes on my tower products but I find the prices reasonable and I get the items very quickly. If the hobby shop can't maintane it's competitiveness, it will fail. I've lived in several states and in several cities and I've seen first hand hobby shops that flourish and others that fail. This is America, unless you're getting subsidies, we don't support higher prices. This may or may not be the right thing, but it is what it is. I'm not slamming hobby shops, I think they have their place, but they need to stay competitive if they want to survive.

Edit spelling

In addition, it seems like the hobby shops that do the best have the best and biggest selection of products. If I know I can get something at a hobby shop, I will go there even if it is a couple of bucks more. So many hobby shops have to order every thing you want unless it's a push rod.

I wasn't disagreeing with you man. I'd definitely want to save the money. I was just saying what I'd do with those savings.

I'm glad you'd do the same.

And the "Cheap" thing is just 'cause I'm an English degree holder (lot of good that did me) and I'm anal retentive about spelling and grammar.

EDIT: I had a friggin' typo! [:'(]

Your all right I was out of line with my statement. Here I would have met the price. I always do. Some days are better then others and after a long day with the public you just shoot your mouth off with out thinking. Again I'm sorry. There's nothing I can do about sales tax, but i will always match or go lower on any item I have. If i can't I will tell you I can't and let you use my phone to place the order. Here the most important thing is to fly and have fun, and anything i can do to further the hobby. So go ahead and beat me up, I can take it. Dennis

Thank you, I should have just asked if anyone had used red rocket hobby to buy a plane and what they thought of it. Might have been a lot easier. Only had one answer the question and I learned a lot. I only thought if he could help me with my first buy, after that he would have a valued customer. I hope you do great in your business. I have never bought a plane. If it is much fun as I think. I will spend a lot of money in my LHS. Just a little afraid to jump out and spend a lot of money at first. Plus I have a wife>>> You out there in my same shoes understand that the bed is a lot nicer than the DOG house, floor, or wherever I can find to lay my head. I LOVE HER with all my heart.

The sole purpose of having a store that sells RC is to help the new guy with all the questions when getting in the hobby. The ones that have been flying for years can buy on line without getting in trouble. you did the right thing in asking him to match pricing. I was wrong in my answer to you. If you are new the slow v is a good low cost start. You would have gotten the free battery from me. the sales tax is something no one can dump. As each person comes thru the door I have to size them up. Some just shop and will never buy except on-line and others like you want to give the business a chance. The day I made that post I had been beat over the head with Tower pricing and a $20 discount on top of that. Like I said open mouth insert foot.
Find a flying field on watch everybody fly and see if this is somthing you want to do. don't worry about the wife, none of them like this hobby that much but they will live with it. I always say we are all married to the same women she just looke different. E-mail me anytime if you need held getting into the hobby. Dennis

ill always by from my LHS if its small stuff(glue etc.), i need advice on buying it, or if he'll meet the internet price(ie i bought my radio from him, though i had to wait an extra day and pay taxes, because he gave me basicaly the same deal) ill support as much as possible, but some of us are not well endowed with $$. on that note i have bought a trainer, a radio and an engine from him. he gave me excellent deals and i would rather keep the money local
