Hey Mike, Welcome
Moving the push rod in on the control horn (closer to the control surface) will give it less throw, moving it out will give it more, same deal on the servo horns too. You dont need much control throw at all, check out how much is required in you planes manual. All my throws on my trainer are around 1/2".
hope this helps, good luck

Mike,
Wings don't fold due to too much throw on the control surfaces, they fold due to poor construction and/or overstressing the design from pulling out of dives to quickly.
You didn't say if you got the plane used (could have been damaged), or an arf...which you didn't quite get enough glue on.
Either way, I suggest going to your local club, and enlisting the help of some experienced builders to get you started. It is much better to have someone show you the ropes at first if youre having troubles, than to try and decipher opinions from us geezers who can't see what you have gotten into.

HUH??
Man Ive heard a lot of reasons for misshaps, but, ailerons moving too far????
OK, even if the ailerons have too much throw, wouldnt that just make it ROLL faster??
I understand its a trainer, but seems itd have to be at beyond trainer speed w/ barn door ailerons to have structural failure??
Think maybe there was a little ca left out or something???
Just a dumb thought.

You may be Irish, but you're not stupid. You're asking what to do. Best advice so far is GET ANOTHER INSTRUCTOR.
There is no reason to fly your trainer that high. It should be checked somewhat for safety and structural integrity before it goes up. If you were told the throws were too big, then why weren't they checked on the ground. Lame excuse for someone learning on your dollar.
PLEASE get another instructor.

One of the basic fundamentals of flying is takeoffs, landings and basic flying patterns. Do not let your "new" instructor have you just fly wherever you please, if you do, your not learning basic discipline.
* Most new guys tend to let the plane fly them. "Hey I'm not doing this , the plane is!" Wrong jacko, you are. Fly the plane.
We have a fair percentage of good pilots here where I live who have no field courtesy at all, This also shows in flying ability. They just do as they please but we have an advantage. City owned and we call the cops to get them out.
Anyways, don't give up.

whoa
thanks for the great response.well my father was lookin for a new instructor(i was at a club with a dumb instructor) and guess what.one of his friends (he didnt know he flew them) is a r/c fanatic.so hes gonna check my plane and get me up and running properly.i think hell be my new instructor(please god).did i mention my old instructor(ill call him Mrs Flys To High ) was actually smoking while it was up in the air.which aint good now is it.also do most instructers link 2 transmitters like 1 for instructor so he can take over when in trouble.mine didnt.he just grabbed it when i was turning too far.(after all i couldnt even see it)and i dont know how he could.it was a spectacular crash though.straight into the ground.the engine was buried into the ground.i had to get a screw driver to pri it out.that goes to show how much speed it got on its nose dive.

Most instructors use a buddy box[student and instructor connected]some don't,just trade the radio back and forth, even if you have to furnish your own cord and or box it would be cheaper than crashing.Buddy box is a compatable radio switched off.
Have a goodun,John.

Hi Mike:
My oldest son's name is Mike, and our last name is Mahon. Guess where that name originates. And don't give us that "stupid" crap again. Please substitute "inexperienced" for "stupid". You are intelligent enough to ask questions and that is all in your favor. If you enjoy this sport/hobby, keep at it. Get yourself aligned with your new instructor and keep on keeping on. I've always wanted to visit your country, and maybe someday, if you invite us, we can all come and watch you win a national championship or whatever the equivalent is there. Consider us all your friend and KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS.
