I'm looking for a good place to fly, a place that doesn't really require a paid membership. About 10 years ago here was a vacant lot of Telge road, where there was a group of RC flyers, now there is a warehouse on the location. Also there was a group of guys who flew in the Fry and 529 area, if have a new field I would like to know where yall fly.
Thank
Philip

i lived in Houston for 5 years i used to fly off hwy 59 at the saddle back stadium, not sure if it is still there.there was a nice flying park on the way going to the airport if i remember correctly cant remember the name of the park but they had a nice setup for ucontrol and RC.i would however recommend that you at least have AMA insurance.my brother made the mistake of flying in a school yard he crashed into someone's roof it cost ed almost 2k to repair the roof.there are a lot of farms just outside Houston that have dirt runways on them might do some door knocking...i like flying at my clubs field or other fields we visit,it is good to have someone to talk to and watch other flyer's...happy flying

horace315,
Thanks for the response and I agree that AMA is very important, when flying around other people's property.
Let me ask you another question, I'm new to this forum and wasn't sure where to place this question, I didn't get very much response, and was wondering if there was a better place I could ask this question.
Thanks again
Philip

Yo Phillip,
That was me and my crew who flew out on Telge, next to Randalls. Kenny, Ron, Roger, Gerald, Ed, John and myself and up to 20 other people would show up. Outlaw R/C
For the most part, that group has split up to different fields. Scobee, Space City, HARKS, SPARKS. Several of them went to Harley's and a few of us are still flying.
Welcome back.

Tony,
I thought my chances of getting in touch of one of yall guys would be one in a million, guess I was wrong. If my memory serves me correct the location where you once flew is now occupied by a Budweiser distribution center?
There is another group who once flew off 529, one guy’s name is Simon, do you know him? I would like to find where they fly now?
A couple years ago I organized an electric fun fly, but now there are buildings on that site, I would like to do it again but I need a good place to host the event. I found some open fields off West road that may work, but now I’m concerned about bringing a group of people onto private property.
Do you think “outlaw” flying is a thing of the past? When I would drive past yall’s old field, I would roll down my windows to listen for the sound of glow motors, hoping yall found a new site, but I guess not.
I noticed you are in Lake Jackson now, I often drive though your city to do some fishing. Maybe one day I can check out yall’s field down yaunder.
Thanks for the reply
Philip

Come on down.
Best place to have an event is Scobie at the corner of Westheimer and HWY 6 in George Bush park. It is a public field. There is a club there, however events are often held there and the event does not have to be a club event.
Outlaw flying in H Town is getting thin for glow or gas planes, its worth going to a true field to fly the good stuff. People are flying foamys all over the place and that concerns me with the good planes.

Tony,
I can see your concern about foamy fliers being every where, I don't think there will be much harm in that, unless they are flying very close to your field. Even in the event of that, my new receiver the Seeker 6 should take care of any problems with channel interference. According to them, I can turn off my TX and another TX on the same channel still will not affect my RX. I put the Seeker 6 in my newly converted 40 size electric and have not seen any issues with the RX.
By the way, a 40 size electric can be very affordable now, the set up was very close to what a glow would cost, that is with cheap RC car battery packs. Hobby Lobby ran the AXI 2826 on sale for $69, two 6 cell RC Car packs, and I'm using the Cool Running ESC for $45. Flight times are not very long, but I can change my packs out faster than the time it takes to refuel, and I bought 4 packs for less than $10 a piece.
Are you saying anyone can organize an event at Scobie? But don't think that I could do an electric only event there, not sure if the glow guys would be happy about that.
Philip
