Default 25 size engine

im looking for a 25 size engine. ive looked at the thunder tiger gp. and the os la. ive heard bad things about la engines but is it only lack of power? i own tt pros in the 40 and 46 size and like them alot. but do not know about the gp's. ive also seen on ebay a tt 25 pro. but i cannot see where that was available. is that an older engine they no longer make? the engine is for a warbird so i am not overly concearned about speed. but i do want a reliable engine that i wont have to fuss with like my other tt pro's.

Mostly, yes. People buy an LA expecting FX power and then complain.

I don't have a .25 GP, but my .15 GP works very well. Very reliable idle, and has never deadsticked. Depending on which warbird you're considering, you might also look at the TT .36 Pro. If it's light enough, a .30 four stroke would be cool.

I have a .25FX that is a wonderful little engine and highly recomend it. I also like my MVVS .28, little louder but a lot stronger. Saito makes a really cute .30 four stroke. I may need to aquire one of them soon.

Cute? "Bigger, Badder, Meaner, Faster!" Vicman is considering an engine because it's cute? What is the world coming to? Something wrong with the water in your area these days, or are you just getting in touch with your "other" side?

I'm running two OS .25 FX's on my scratch built Uravitch OV-10. I can't say enough good things about them. I have a lot of flights on the airplane with NO engine outs, both engines running within a few RPMs of each other always, and they throttle down very well for landing. Very powerful, easy to start, and they run very well here at our 3500 ft location. They don't seem to be affected by changes in humidity that my Thunder Tiger .46 gives me fits on. Living in Oregon, we get not only seasonal changes in humidity, but sometimes weekly changes . I have tried the OS LA engines on other planes, but they don't put out much power, so I would only look at the more powerful FX, especially with a warbird. Lee

bass,

For the best "bang for the buck" try a Magnum.25XL. Reliable, easy starting, loads of power and a decent price.

I have an OS 32SX. More pricy than the others but very easy to adjust, high power, reliable, quiet, and very easy on fuel.

Aw heck, that won't be JATO, that'll be ICBM![X(] I have a Saito .30 on a 50" (yep, 50") Tiger Moth, and it pulls it around fine--the plane absolutely dwarfs the engine and even the muffler mostly fits inside the cowl.

If you get a Saito .30, you won't regret it. Just don't run it on fuel less than 15% nitro, or it'll disappoint you. Oh, and the Magnums are probably the best bang-for-the-buck engine in .25 two-stroke from what I've seen.

Hmmm... two threads asking about a good .25 and nobody mentions the Norvel offerings. I'd recommend them to a friend anytime! There's two versions. Ball bearing and bushed. Great engines!

I'll bet the Norvel's the power king of the affordable .25s, but it seems that a lot of people have trouble getting them to run and transition reliably. It seems likely that this is due to the differences between norvels and OS, Magnum, etc and people not reading the directions rather than a problem with the engines, however.

It makes me proud that you recognize me as a member of the Revver Brotherhood. Truthfully the first model my son flew was a HOB stick with a Saito .30 handling the pulling duty. That was a great day, he was just 18 months old.

I beg to differ! I was one of the first couple posts on the last .25 thread, and I recommended the Norvel, but as usual, nobody listens...
