Airplane is fine, can't say about the engine without knowing what it is and what size. The rubber bands I use are #64 (double check this on towerhobbies.com) and I put on 12. First two diagonally, then 4 back to front, last two diagonally to hold the rest on. There are two that hold the wings together, on the two small screws, these can be any small rubber band since they only keep the wings from separating when installing the wing.

The plane sometimes came from Hanger 9 with a MDS 40 but more recently with a Evolution TPS which has .45 ci.
The plane may have most any 40 - 46 size engine in it?
The MDS 40 was troublesome for a lot of people. The Evolution works OK.
Enjoy,
Jim

When you go to Office Depot for the rubber bands just tell them that you need #64 rubber bands. These are exactly the same thing sold in a hobby shop, but they are a lot cheaper from an office supply store.
Hope this helps

They are called #64 rubber bands in the hobby shop. Make sure you use #64 because anything else smaller will cause the wing to sepereate from the rest of the plane. By a ton of them, you'll need them since they will break when you take them on and off and the fuel will eventually eat them.
Store them in a jar with baby powder so they do not dry out, including the used ones since the baby powder will soak up the fuel on them

On the first couple of pages are several threads of "which trainer," "new person needs advice," "what should I buy," etc. There's a lot of info in the replies.
Assuming you want a plane with an engine versus one with an electric motor:
SIG LT-40
Hobbico Superstar
Tower Hobbies Trainer
Thunder Tiger Trainer
Hangar 9 Alpha
World Models Sky Raider Mach I
There are probably at least a dozen more but all of the above are good.
Before you spend any money or head down a specific path, try to find a flying club in your area and talk to the people there. This site has a club finder that works for all of the US.
http://www.ama-dist-8.org/Clubs/index.html
Most clubs have instructors to teach you to fly for no additional cost above joining the club. One of the instructors or other members might have a trainer plane for sale at a good price.

The battery pack will look something like this:

and you should have a charger something like this:

I said "something" like this because I do not know what brand of radio you have but the basic physical shapes should be similar. The charger plugs into a switch harness like this one:

Good luck
What brand of radios are in your plane?
