Well after months of talking about gas planes I finally convinced my dad to join me into a club and fly. After much heated debate about which plane to get and a talk with my instructor I got the RTF Nexstar and boy is it beautiful. The first thing I noticed is that this is great quality and very durable. To all those noobies out there I recommend this plane highly.
The Orientation:It took about 3 hours for the club chairman to introduce me to the club and all the rules and things I have to follow. Then went through my plane picking out all the problems and telling me how to fix them,so I have a bunch of stuff to do this week.
The Flight:The first time my instructor fueled the plane for me and showed me how to do everything. It was just beautiful hearing that engine run. Then we takied onto the runway and took off.It looked absolutely awesome in the air.I did some pattern turns and then he landed it.
It was a great experience and just wanted to share it with you all.So thankyou all who recommended the Nexstar and gave me advice. Some of you might remember the post I had called "FIRST GLOW PLANE".

Congrats on the first flight and welcome to the addiction
There is only one known cure and that is to take two planes to the field in the morning and fly but you only have one right now, don't worry, this will change

Just take your time and listen to the instructor. He is there to help you and he will do just that. And do not forget to breath. Most new students get so excited seeing their brand new baby flying they forget to breath and relax. Old pilots are the same way when we/they/I maiden a new plane.
Once your instructor tells you that you are good for solo and you do that solo 2 things need/will happen. First is that is a feeling you will never forget and second, come back in here and tell us all about it
Also keep us informed as to how your are prgressing and if something does not look feel right tell the instructor so he can take control. Also do not push yourself at first. Most students get pretty tired after about 5 minutes so learn to recognize that and it will save you even long past solo.
I use touch and goes to test myslef. I pride myself is glass smooth landings and if I start bouncing then I know it's time to stop or take a break
Good luck [sm=thumbup.gif]

Welcome to my addiction!
Bubba knows what he is talking about. Relax, take your time and dont get in a hurry to solo. Enjpy the learning experience. You will know when you are ready as will your instructor.
This is one of the few hobbies where you absolutely must forget everything else while you are doing it, you cant afford to let your mind drift and I cant think of 1 single time my mind has left the plane while I was flying. I can honestly say I have never thought about work, sex, bills or anything else while I have the transmitter in my hands and a plane in the air. It is a true escape from reality.[8D]

I was reading through the posts and I noticed that no one mentioned SAFETY! Airplanes can cause serious injury! Especially the prop. So always have safe operating procedures in your mind. I am sure that your instructor went through the safe procedures to use and that the club has a document on their safety rules. I suggest you read those rules several times. Form one youngster to another: You will learn to solo in a matter of days, depending on how often you will go to the field. We have more relfex skills becuase of video games. Good job on your first flight, i remember mine also. Good times....

Frank,
Windex is fine. I use the stuff from a Dollar store that is the same thing as Formula 409 and buy it by the gallon for the cost of windex at a food/grocery store. I think it does a better job than Windex but I run high oil content in my glow planes
Hey samolot, even us old farts in training still have pretty good reaction times. Just look at some of the top drag racers like John Force and the like which race into their late forties and early fifties. But I can't argue with ya. Video games most definitely help with the hand eye coordination part of it

I have to agree with MikeEast; When you're flying all you think about is what the plane is doing and what you can do with it. Great for getting rid of the tensions built up after a week of work. As for what to clean the plane with, I used windex first but found that straight alchohol works best
.Welcome to my addiction!

I think 2 months of FMS everyday really prepared me for this. And yes video games have helped with my hand-eye coordination.Well I'm still doing the mods on my plane that my instructor has told me to do and after that next flight. The nexstar is great!
Thank you to those who gave me the cleaner brands.

Congratulations Frankie, you are now addicted and there is no known cure . Not being in America i am not familiar with your house hold cleaning products, I just use a spray and wipe available down under and it cleans my aircraft easily.I have to aggree with you that the nextstar is a beautiful trainer, as i am training 3 students here who has them, and no complaints. And as Red head said us old instructors can and do still have the right reflexes for all aspects of this hobbie. Enjoy yourself for many years to come

Methodman,
These websites helped me a lot!I knew everything about rc airplanes before I even flew one.Gathering money for months made me research and talk to people.Ohyeah,I started out on a parkzone p-51 and crashed it immediately before I found this and another website. Then I went to a hobbyzone aerobird challenger and now here I am with my nexstar.
Happy Flying!

Congrats on getting your new plane Frankie. I bought the Nexstar too, even though I allready had the Tower Trainer. I just Thought the NexStar was so much nicer, I soloed on it today by myself, & I'll tell ya, it is much easier to fly than my Tower Trainer. Think I'll turn the Tower into a float plane[sm=lol.gif] Good luck with your training & have fun.

Hi guys,
When I was loctiting all my screws, the one with the hex top that screws the control line to the servo got lost.Anybody know what size this screw might be.
This screw has a hex top that screws into that square thing on top of the servo for throttle.

Ferocious Frankie,
Go to your LHS and they can fix you right up. Great to hear you enjoy the hobby. Good luck. BTW: I have beat HALO 2 on the hardest level, "Legendary" so don't think you kids have all the hand/eye stuff. However, I will admitt it is easier to train young people with all the exposure you have to video games and computers.

cheapest & most effective thing Ive found to remove glow oil from a model is Rubbing alcohol availible in large bottles at most discount store. the fuel is alcohol based so it disolves easily.

Can anyone tell me what those square things that secure the control rod are called. They're the things that sit on top of the servo arms for throttle and rudder.
Thanks

Thanks to all who replied to my question.
Yes my nexstar came with the simulator and it is pretty good.Maybe they can work one the graphics, but I still like the fact that it's pretty real. With FMS the control surfaces didn't move, but with this you can see things like ailerons and elevator moving.
Thanks

Thats how I learned to fly was with the simulator I didn't have an instructor. Even if the simulator does not have the best graphics and is not ultra realistick, if you spend a lot of time on it your flying skills will improve much faster than just flying alone. The reason being that you can take the plane on the simulator and throw it into all kinds of funky attitudes and not worry about crashing just reset and go. By doing that you'll learn the right controll inputs no matter what attitute the plane is in (no dumb thumb). Well good luck and I hope you enjoy your Nextar, I know I do.
