Hi all, I'm just starting in RC flying. I've looked at a few other sites and choose the Parkzone Super Decathlon as a starter. Was this a mistake?? I got ahold of the RC club here and also managed to get a Hangar 9 Alpha that is almost new at a very good price. Heard this is also a great trainer. Question, back to the Decathlon, winter here in Cold Lake Alberta has lots of snow and cold weather, has anyone flown the Decathlon with skis??? Thanks in advance.

I flew the Decathalon all winter last year after track practice. It isn't the easiest plane to fly. It will tip stall if you get too slow. It will land on snow no problem, you don't need skis. I could never get it to take off from the ground anyway. Just hand launch it and set it down softly in the snow or on pavement if you have a parking lot like I did.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the advice. Going to try and do it right by getting an instructor and join the club here. Sure hate to try it by myself and see it crash on the first flight.
Thanks again.

Wayne, thats a good plan. Stick with the Alpha and the instructor and you'll do fine. The decathalon is a little much for a beginner but once you get the basics down, it can be done. Enjoy!
