Default Counters?

What are folks referring to when they say counters in their builds? I see a counter balance but not a lot of detail.

Any input appreciated.

There are 3 types of "counters". Individual post count - appears under your name at the left of thread.

Thread counter - appears at bottom right and tells how many posts have been made to a given thread.

There is also the counter at the LHS - This is where you place your money in exchange for "stuff".

If you are thinking of something else, please give an example.

Those would be counter balances. Portions of the control surfaces that extend forward of the hinge line. Their purpose is to lighten the load on the servo by providing an aerodynamic assist (boost) to the movement. It is a common tactic on full scale aircraft but the size must be carefully chosen so as not to cause more trouble that help. Some aerobatic full scale (pitts) also use a device called "spades" or "shovels" for a similar benefit on the ailerons. Naturally the pilot must be careful that they don't become REAL shovels by landing with a wing too low.[:@]

What the hell is a counter? Are they referring to a counterweight, or maybe a counter-balance tab (sometimes just called a balance tab)? It really helps to use the real name.

They are referring to "counter-balance" - the tabs extending ahead of the hinge line on the elevator/rudder. I think the whole discussion got started when I was asked off-line about how I added them to my SSE. The references sort of carried over into some of the new SSE build threads that have surfaced recently. Hey! Did I start a new fad?

Look at post 528 here. It shows a picture of the elevator with a counterbalance tab.

I keep them sorted and cross indexed in an EXCEL file. Actually I just did a quick look thru the thread and picked out a few examples.

Yeah, we put more than 8 million packages through the Memphis hub last night. that doesn't count our hubs in Los Angeles, Indianapolis, Anchorage, China, Newark. I think I'm forgetting one but not sure.
