I want to get back into flying rc
i have total flying time of around 9 yrs, never really got into extreme advanced airplanes, I have been in it and out of out on and off
my last time i quit was probably close to a year ago and i was flying the sig kadet senior arf - for a video platform, very fun, just loved that plane
im living in a trailer and have very little space, the good news is i have a great wife and very understanding and she would - down the road like to learn to fly herself.
the thing im really into is the old nolstalgic high wing planes, like the monocoupe 90a, cub, super cub, decathalon, stinson reliant, etc. - but i don't think it would be wise to start with one of these
i want an arf, and i would like a nice tail dragger trainer, i'm leaning heavily toward the sig rascal 72" - man that looks good, maybe i should get the lt40 arf and convert it into a taildragger?
any ideas and thoughts? recomendations?
thanks

I'm in the process of assemblying the 72" rascal now. It's very well built plane. Easy to assemble. I'll post some pics asap. You cannot go wrong with this one.

The 72" Rascal is a sweetheart to fly. It can really move out with a 46 2 stroke or a 52 4 stroke (aerobatic also - loops, rolls, knife edge, etc ) but will also fly slowly, so it will do quite well as a trainer. Since the plane is a bit more sensitive than the majority of trainers (not much, but a little more ), I suggest a couple of sessions on a buddy box to get used to the plane and you will be all set.
A couple of things you need to be aware of with the Rascal.
1. The engine is an inverted installation. Because of that, I strongly suggest a remote glow ignitor for the engine (keeps the fingers out of the prop ).
2. For convenience you should have a remote fueler. I use a 3rd line (DuBro Fuel It ) and have absolutely no problems.
3. The plane is a "floater". I have an OS 46 FX in mine. My engine will idle at 1950 rpms. With an APC 11x6 the plane WILL NOT LAND. I found a MAS 11x5 allows the plane to get slow enough to land. A friend of mine has the same plane with an OS 52 4 stroke - same problem. Went to a MAS prop of a lower pitch and problem solved.
. I suggest beefing up the LG plate inside the fuselage. On a rough landing it will tear out. Use some 3/8" basswood tri-stock to secure the plate to the fuselage sides.
If you get the Rascal, I am certain you will enjoy it. The plane is an exceptionally well made ARF, has no bad habits at all and is attractive to boot.
