Default Radio battery question.

What would the best battery to run in a radio be? the one ive got is a piece of junk(i think it has a dead cell). Could i run a li-po in it? ive got some 1050 Mah 3-cell pack im not doing anything with......they dont fit in the battery area well but could somehting that size be used?

If not then what size battery?

I don't trust li po batteries the best advice i can give you is to stay with the battery that came with the transmitter. there are so many circuits that are current sensitive that it just isnt worth the risk. you can have a replacement in 3 to 5 days when ordering from tower, or lhs miight carry what you need

For a receiver pack, 1100 mAh would be the smallest size pack I would choose, unless space or weight were a real consideration. If money is a factor, stick with nicad packs, otherwise I'd go for the Ni-Mh packs. I would stay with 4 cell packs unless you need the extra umph from a 5 cell.

Check on Tower Hobbies, do a search, many after market batteries exist with higher capacity for most of the popular transmitters, I replaced the pack in my 9C with a 1650 Mah NiMH pack and I can fly practically all weekend.

4.8 to 6.0 volts, either NiCAD, or NiMh are just fine. 700 Mah is fine for a plane with four regular servos, this will give you approximately one hours flying time. If using more then 4 servos (most designs now use 5) I would go with higher capacity. Higher capacity and NiMh will also give longer flying times. People do use Li-POLY or Li- ION cells in the big gassers, however, I think they run them through power panels first.

I don't recommend a Li-po in a transmitter.
When you charge it must be removed from the radio, that's a lot of extra work.
You could leave it in and risk burning up the radio.

I recommend finding the largest rated NiCad or NiMh that will physically fit into the radio.
They aren't that expensive, $20, and you can shop around for the best deal.

Good Luck,

barracudahockey,

I did the same as you. I have two 9c's one a super and one regular and I put the hydramax 1650mah batteries in both. No worries about how many planes you fly or how long. Nice.....

These guys sell all the way up to 2500mah transmitter packs, and wall wart chargers with enough output to charge them overnight

Didn't catch that you were talking about Tx batteries. Gotta go with KW Counter. Use NiCads or NiMh for the TX.

Yes, but it will take much longer.

If you're only getting 20 minutes off a 12 hour charge, something is wrong. Have you cycled the battery a few times?

What kind of radio do you have and what battery is currently in it? How old is it? A fairly 'typical' battery is a 600mah nicad. My Futaba 6XAS has a 600mah battery and it gives at least an hour of "on time" before the voltage drops to 9.5 and that's more than I run my radio in a day.

That happened to me...DEAD CELL. throw away, (um...recycle), that bad TX pack and get a new one.

I went to http://www.batteriesamerica.com got an 18 MAH pack for like 18 bucks. Remember to order the proper connector, they have em all.
