Ok I asked this a while back but ended up finding what I needed at the LHS. But now that I'm getting more into it I'm finding they really don't carry much. Here's the things I wanted to buy that they did not have today. Futaba 7CAP-CHP, Ultra tote starter kit(one with all the tools), wing seating tape, 2 1/4 aluminum spinner, and a GP Slot Machine.
I talked to the guy and he was cool said he could order it but it would take 2-3 weeks to arrive. So should I go Tower Hobbies or anyone know of a better one?
Thanks
Max

Tower, or their alter ego, Omni, are good choices. Tower's advantage is they've always got some sort of discount going on. Omni offers free shipping on orders over $100, but only occasionally has a discount. If you think you'll be buying often, and over $150 on most orders, Tower's super saver club might be worth joining. The three main values are free shipping on orders over $150, frequent freebies in their coupon book, and first dibs on scratch and dent items.

They always do..
Everytime 1 person gets on here with a rant about Tower 50 more get on about how they've had great service or how a problem has been handled to their satisfaction or better...Max I cant imagine anything in the RC world taking 2-3 weeks to order unless your LHS already knows its back ordered....Rog

Another vote for Tower Hobbies here. I have had a couple of problems in the past, like a broken GP Master Caddy, & a couple of Tower Trainer MKII RTFs that were coverd just atrociously. But in both cases they went out of their way to do whatever it took to make it right. They finally had a sales mananger go out to the warehouse & open several boxes to find me a Trainer that I could live with. I think their customer service policies are as good as it gets. I spoke with several reps throughout this process. Each & everyone of them were both very polite & apolagetic. I never got a bad attitude from any of them, just a desire to make it right by me, which they eventually did. I have no regrets & continue to do business with them. We all make mistakes, what makes a good business is how you handle & take responsibility for your mistakes. They get a AAA rating in my book. Go with Tower, oder in confidence that if there is a problem they will make it right by you![sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif][sm=thumbup.gif]

Give Donald's Hobbies a try.. Just e-mail him in the contact section of what you want to buy (especially if you know the exact item) and he'll get back to you with a price that's usually lower than Tower. He's a straight up guy and really likes helping the pilot/builder/modeler.

You just reminded me Ken. It was my Dad too that turned me on to Tower. I beleive he has done business with them from day one, with absolutely no complaints.

Just for info for any flyers from up north (in Canada) that might be reading this thread we have a mail order that is top notch and usually has a price cheaper than Towers by the time you add shipping and US/Cn $$ conversion. They are called Great Hobbies and they have free shipping with orders over $100.00 if you have MAAC membership.

Same here. Always order from Tower. Great service.[sm=thumbup.gif] Whenever I've had problems they've fixed it without any hassle and there's always a deal which makes the prices even lower.

I use mainly two of the major mail order:
1. quantum models (www.quantummodels.com) good service, free shipping above $150 clunky website
2. Tower.. ditto on everybody's notes
Also for specialty stuff from other vendors on the net:
Sevocity - servos and good radio offers
arts hobby - for fiberglass and carbon fiber
central hobbies - all things pattern
engines - www.justengines.unseen.org my supplier of Irvine engines from the uK

Wow, I don't understand all the bad vibes about tower, here! I think they're great! I started dealing with them back in ought 76. Great selection, good prices, quick delivery, I can't say anything bad. However, people are complaining about them not having Rx crystals.

Despite the showering of affection offered here for GP/Tower/Hobbico et al
there are people out here that have been treated quite poorly by them.
I for one will not do business with them anymore.

Hey Mode One.. either i am missing something or you're missing something but the smooching of the thread with Tower is like a marshmallow out of the fire (sticky
) ....
Tower is ok but so are other net providers. If you look at them as in real life there are people that have been treated poorly and other that would bleed for them...

I thought there was too much "butt slapping" of Tower's Fanny and was just trying to change the pace a bit! I really have been happy with Tower! However, if they don't have what I need or drop the ball with an order, delivery time or some such other, I'm down the road! I like a lot of other places, also.

I have also had great customer service from Kangke Ind. out of N.Y. In a situatation that was entirely my own fault, but they took care of me, did an exchange, gave me a free part for the new engine & wouldn't even except my offer to at least pay for the shipping since the mix-up was my fault.
maxpower mentioned Hobbytown USA, I've had pretty good luck with them too. When I buy something from the local store (not online) I get a credit in their computer for $5 off a $25 purchase. When I bought my JR6102 they told me had 6 of those credits & let me use them all on the purchase of the radio for $30 off. Works for me!
Both HobbyLobby & Hobby People have treated me well too.
Bottom line is there are a number of good people doing business out there, it's just a matter of looking around to see who has the best price for the items you're looking for at the time you need them. They all have different sales & discounts going on most of the time, so just do the math & see where you'll get the best deal.
