Hi all;
I just got back into the hobby after maybe 10 years. Here's my present problem:
I have a new, (~6 tanks), Saito 82 on my Tiger 60. The motor seems to be exceptionally "sloppy". It spits out a LOT of junk. I had a smaller Saito years ago and don't remember this problem. I've been told that OS is "drier". True? Is it my tuning? As of now, I really don't like this motor and I'm hoping It'll get better before I change it out to something else.
Thanks!!

That .82 is a GREAT engine. I have one in my UCD .46. They will run very rich for the first gallon or so. Sounds like you can start leaning it out quite a bit. It's the low-end that is likely causing the gook. Lean the low-end, then lean the high-end a bit. That will get you close. Then you will need to tune them both to get it running properly. You will have far less oil coming from the exhaust and it should idle around 2k, the top end should be near 10k, but not much over that.
Also, what fuel are you using and what prop are you turning?
I have mine mounted inverted and cowled. It runs great and I start it with a chicken-stick every-time. I run 10% nitro / 18% castor/synthetic blend.
Good Luck!!

I am running a Saito .82 in a UCD .46. It has had a couple of gallons of 10% synthetic fuel run through it. I am having a problem with the engine dying after running 6 minutes. There is still fuel in the tank but the engine dies within 30 seconds, give or take of 6 minutes. I cut out the cowl to provide more air flow, pulled the tank and replaced all the hoses. The engine runs great, then just dies. My dead stick landings are getting better but I'm getting tired of not coming in under power. Any ideas out there?

Are you using a tachometer for tuning? Could you be too lean? Mine runs reliably and has never dead-sticked at all. (I hope I don't jinx it now).
once I got it tuned right, I installed the cowl and never looked back.

The fuel is Cool Power 15%, prop is 13x6. It tachs out ~10300 and I backed off to 10000.
Thanks.....looks like I have to work on the low end. I'd heard they shipped them quite rich.

It could be too lean on the low end. Tach says its at about 9200. Ever hear of the muffler nipple getting plugged and needing to be cleaned out?
