They should do fine, as long as you get the right cable.

Yes just look at the port on the back to see if it is round or square. Most of the newer stuff has a small square port for the cord & the older radios had a bigger round port. You can get all three configurations at Tower Hobbies from about $9.99 to $11.99 ( I think) could be wrong about the price but they are something like that. They have round to round, square to square, & round to square, which is the one I needed. Since you are doing Futaba to Futaba, one of those 3 cords will fit. Just look at the back of both radios to see which one you need.

Your manual
http://www.futaba-rc.com/manuals/6yg-manual.pdf
on pg 19 does not list the 6EXAS as compatible. It does say both units must be the same type of modulation.
You may want to check further on this with Futaba.

I would suggest that you post your question on the Futaba Direct Support Forum also to get an answer from "the horses mouth".
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_125/tt.htm

These other posters may very well be correct and the manual just out of date. I'd just like you to be sure.

Bruce brings up a good point, but I think I found the page on Futabas site that shows you will be ok. It shows both current & discontinued radio models that are compatible with the Futaba Trainer cords available. Here are the charts, you will find your 6EXA as 6EX** which includes all combinations of the 6EX under current models, & your 6YF under discontinued models. They are both listed as Trainer cord compatible, but please read the note about modulation at the bottom of the chart because as Bruce said they do have to be set the same. I guess I just got lucky when I ordered mine because I did not know to check the modulation [X(]

http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/trainer-cord.html

I had a Futaba 6DA also discontinued & it worked with both my Tower 4ch & my Futaba 4ch that came with my RTF Tower & NexStar Trainers. I had to use the round to square cord. It looks like from the manual page that Bruce put up of your 6YF that you will need the very same cord unless you have a newer version of the 6YF than the one shown in the manual that has the new square plug on it. So again, look at the back of the radio to make sure you get the correct one.

The thing that truely baffled me was that whith the 4 ch radios as the Trainer box & the 6DA as the Student box, I still had high & low rates on the 6DA with the radio turned off, yet the Trainer radios don't even have dual rates on them. How on earth does that work???[sm=spinnyeyes.gif]

I don't know if you checked yet but alot of clubs already have buddy boxes. You may not need a chord.

We're always ready to help. It doesn't cost us any money, you can't make us do any actual work and we aren't doing our real jobs while on RCU.

Did I say that out loud? Sorry boss.

By the way... I have a Futaba 6XAS, and in some of my planes I use aileron mixing, because i have 2 servos for ailerons. Can I use a simple 6ch buddy box to fly with it? I tryed once, but no sucess[]

With the 6EXAS set up using flaperons(wing servos on separate channels) it is not compatable with a 4 channal I know. Should be able to hook up with 6 channel though with the proper cord.

The 6 ch would have to have similar mixing capabilities and even then it might not work. Give it a try.

They haven't answered the question posted after yours yet either. They either haven't checked in yet or maybe started their holiday early. You could also send a PM to BAX or Krista I guess. Might be faster, or just wait a bit. They will get to your question.

BAX replied and offered this chart which is the one Mark offered above.

http://www.futaba-rc.com/radios/trainer-cord.html

Find out what plug styles you need and order the correct cable.

so if i am understanding this correctly than a (little dense sometimes ) mod =FM 6 channel 6yg and my 6exas mod = PCM or FM 6 channel should Work if using FM ??? how do you select FM if you don"t turn it on as student [:@]

their notes
** Stands for all possible combinations. For example, 6EX** means 6EXA, 6EXH, 6EXAS, etc.

(1) For the 6X and 7U series radios, the student radio must be in the same modulation as the master radio. A 4ch FM system cannot be used as the student with a 6X or 7U if either is in PCM.

I guess you just turn the 6EX on & set it to FM, then when using it as the student radio leave the power off?[sm=confused.gif]

Marks suggestion sounds good to me. Use an otherwise unused memory so you won't have to disturb any of the factory default settings other than servo reversal.

thanks guys once again i think i will get the cord try it on the ground

i was flying the R\F G3 last night i made one mistake , i ordered the mode 1 style thank god for the servo mapping feature just reversed all the servos and flipped it around works pretty good i hope the real thing is easier if not this could be $$$$$$$ cause i am all over the sky on the sim and that plane gets small really fast having hard time seeing it (using a 52" WS projection tv) i definitely need the leash [:-] so i hope this works other wise back to tower
