I'm looking for recommendations. I'm a beginner looking for a backyard flyer. Something I don't have to go to an actual flight park for but instead could just do in my yard.
Thanks,

Unless you have a football sized backyard the only thing you can fly in it is an Airhogs Aeroace from you local Target or Walmart..about $30 at Target and $40 at Walmart...its just a fun little toy lots of guys have them,,but they arent much value for training purposes ..if on the other hand you do have a large yard I'd look into the GWS line and get a pico stick to play with...Rog

Well, what I really wanted to do was stand in my front yard and fly something back and forth over the street. Or that I could take to a local park and fly around.

GWS E-Starter or Slow Stick can be flown in pretty tight quarters. Electric helicopters can also be flown in small areas once you get used to them. I fly my Blade CX in my living room.
When you get good you can fly almost any aerobatic electric in your yard, but that takes quite alot of skill.

If a good park flyer is what your looking for than the T-Hawk from [link]http://www.readytoflyfun.com[/link] is great, but I wouldn't try to fly it from the street in your front yard. Yes I've tried

Ken's right. It is much harder, requiring constant concentration to fly in a small area. Those straighten out & relax for a moment times are something that most of us who fly at a proper field take for granted but as soon as it is taken away from you, you realize very quickly how important it is & how much easier & more relaxing it makes flying. I'm no pro yet but I have come a long way in my flying & have become fairly proficient I believe for the short time I have been flying. Just soloed this last December. I generally have few problems these days when flying at the field that involve dumb-thumbs. I have on a few occasions flown my small electrics (Foamies) in much smaller areas like at the campground over a nice grassy area when there are no kids around playing on it. Man what a huge difference it is than flying at the field where I have all the room in the world to do whatever I want. I can get into trouble so quickly & easily when flying in that small of a space that it is truely a whole new ball game for me. It seems to require all of my attention span which is very limited!![&:] Hopefully someday I will get better at it, because I do like the little 3D Foamies, especially my AirfoilZ Yak & Edge 540!!
They are actually pretty big for Foamies with 40 inch airfoiled wings instead of those flat ones, they fly like a big plane!
If you don't mind building from a kit, you might take a look at Mountain Models. They have some pretty nice little electric kit planes that you might get away with flying at home in a smaller area. I'll put up a link to their site for ya. I had their "Switchback" & it was a pretty nice little plane until I crashed it.[:@] LOl.

That is the link to their home page. This second link is to a model called the "Mini Flash". This is a nice little plane that will slow fly in a small area. These are nice, very complete kits that are quick easy builders. They come with the pushrods & wheels & pretty much everything needed but the electrics. They also have some package deals too. Just shop around their site to see if anything interests you. Good luck & I hope this helps.

Aero Ace (a BLAST!)
or
Slow stick (Slow flier)
or
Slo-V (slow flyer)
I have the Slo-V and Aero Ace. The Aero Ace can be flown in VERY small areas, my backyard is about 1/8th an acre and I own the sky over about 3 houses with it! For $30 you can't go wrong and it's virtually indestructable.
The Slo-V is MUCH BIGGER but flys slow and needs a hair more room. Can roll off ground (ROG) in about 10-15 feet at full throttle. GREAT plane IMHO!
For a place with a LOT of room an Easystar RTF is awesome, I just got one. I have a pic of the Slo-V and Easystar on my web site, go to the My misc. images section...
