Ok, today I flew my PZ typhoon. Eveything went pretty decent until I nosed it straight into the ground. The cockpit area broke in half, but I repaired it pretty easily. So, I get everything tweaked and fixed, and I then decide to do a quick electronics test. I turn on the radio, plug in the battery and all of a sudden I see somewhat of a glow in back of the cowl, then from inside it starts to smoke! What is the problem!?? Can anyone help me with this?? Thanks

A buddy of mine had to replace the speed control in his Typhoon because it burnt up. That may be your problem too. I've had to replace everything that came pre installed in my Typhoon, except the motor. Its a cool plane but it seems that everybody that I know that has one has had to do their own modifications to it. Good Luck

Something is definitely shorted out.
You are going to have to open her up and take a look.
Do a visual check for any broken or loose wiring, look for any dark areas that may have burned.
You may get lucky and just shorted out some wiring but is is very possible that you could have craked a circuit board.

And if you're using lipos, throw it out, if you shorted out a lipo, it will burn up, just a matter of time.
Good to see your throwing your money at fixing that typhoon rather than taking the free training we're all recommending.

Ok, time for everybody to take a step back and catch our breath. The little sniping attacks need aren't really needed in the forum, so I'm hoping that anybody that might be doing them realizes they need to stop. We're all adults here and I' would really hate to have to put people in time out. So let's all work and play well together.

Dude. You maidened it today. You crashed it today, twice.
That = too much plane for too little pilot.
If you want to continue to throw money away and keep crashing, go for it. But an afternoon or 2 at the sticks of a real plane would probably stop that.
I was stubborn at first too, im self taught. On a stryker, something that most wil tell you cant fly.
I know its enjoyable to do it on your own, but in then end, its a bad thing. You learn bad habits, you don't learn some of the more important things. Its dumb. You will eventually crash into something or someone other than the ground.
Do what you want man..but you cant expect to come in here, ignore everyone's advice, crash twice on your first day, and then ask the kind of questions that following our advice would have answered...and not expect someone to say "i told you so"

Hey Ken,
Just a quick question off the topic. Are you by chance an instructor down at Sheppard AFB for the Air Force??? Its a crazy question I know. I was at Sheppard back in 03' and one of my tech school instructors, also by the name of Ken, flew both rc planes and full scale aircraft. He was from Lawton as well.
Just thought I'd ask [8D]
