on board battery checker problems

Just bought a cirrus on board battery checker 5 cell S connection part no 444763. I absolutely can not get it to work with my R700 JR reciever and jr 4n1100 4.8v 1100mah batttery. I have modified the connectors so black and red match up when I connect it. I know that it does work because when I turn the switch on the plane on and off the lights light up for a split second. I even connected it to the charger and the lights light up. I have tried this on both my planes with the same jr set up and it does the same exact thing. Took it back to the hobby shop and they could not figure it out. Took another one out of the package and also did the same thing. Anybody have any ideas or ever ran into this problem with the cirrus checker?

I have never used a Cirrus monitor but on my Voltwatch there is a small switch to choose between 6v and 4.8v, you did mention the monitor was 5 cell (6v) and you are using a 4.8v battery? Just a guess.

If the checker works on your charger but not on your battery pack I would suggest that your battery pack is not putting out enough voltage to read. I checked the part number and the checker is rated for the 5 cell packs. I am also not sure wheather you should have modified the wiring as the Red wire is supposed to be on the inside connection and the Black is upposed to be in the outside connection. The unit comes like this when you buy it. If you wish to stick with the Cirrus brand the unit you need is part # 444762. If you look at the pics you will see that it says for 4 cells. The unit you have says for 5 cells. You hobby shop guy should have picked up on that! [8D]

Thanks, that is a big help. When I took it back down to the shop another guy was there and picked up on that it was for a 6v 5 cell right away. I have been looking for the right one but could not find it until you came up with the part #. I love this site!

You could also look at the Voltwatch models. Its the kind I use and one of them has all ready saved one of my planes. The model number for the one that does both 4 and 5 cell packs is LXHDJ2 and the price is $10.99 at Tower Hobbies. [8D]

Have any of you guys had trouble with more than one light burning at the same time on the voltwatch? The instructions that come with it says that only one will be lit at a time. I have them on 4 planes and three of them will have more than one light on at once. One light will be brighter than the others and have checked them with by using a volt meter to check batteries. I use 4 cell packs and have them set on 4.8 volts. They are on Toerw gear. The bright light is giving the correct voltage but just courious about the other lights

All of my Voltwatch's do the same thing, probably when the voltage is on the verge of dropping to the next lower light. Still works just fine, no complaints here.

When you see the lights on your Voltwatch jumping all over the place when you use your servos, it is giving you some valuable information; your wiring is to small or your switch has high impedance and you are getting excessive voltage drop when the servos are drawing their peak loads. If you monitored that same point with an oscilloscope, you will see big voltage drops for just a few millisecond as the servos are excited.

Actually there was a rather extensive discussion elsewhere about this.
It was determined that the problem is not what you state here, rather the Voltwatch doesn't deal with the pulse loads imposed by the digital servos.
The consensus was that this behaviour is normal for the Voltwatch as it doesn't deal with the digital pulses properly.
