I am new to the RC world and need some help with how to go about finding a flight instructor. I have two local clubs I can visit but I have not been there yet. I am not sure what to expect when I get there. What normally happens with new guys wanting to join a club and looking for a instructor? Do the clubs have designated instructors that I pay or do people volunteer to help? Does the same guy normally help or do others help? What should I look for in deciding between the two clubs?
Thanks Mark

How to choose a club first thign to consider is location is one much closer to your home? Next is does on club specialize in somthing ie. jets helis or what ever. If nothing like that applyes assuming both cost around the same i suggest you go to the larger club the logic being that a larger club will have more instructor = you have a better chance of being able to find an instructor when you go

Simply put, the link below will explain what you can expect from most clubs.

Call the club president and find out when their next meeting is and then attend the meeting. Pay the membership dues and then ask for the names of their instructors. There will probably be some at the meeting that you can speak with and find the one you feel most comfortable with, this will help alot. When you call the club president ask if they are a sanctioned AMA club. You should join AMA anyway but most likely they will require that you be a member. If you can't get a phone number for the club president go out to the flying field in the morning and there will probably be someone there if it's nice out. Ask him what the presidents name is and see if he has his number. If not just ask him when the next meeting is. If it's nice out there will probably be several flyers at the field. Retired members love to fly in the early morning because the wind is calmer!

Janhawk92,
There appears to be 4 AMA sanctioned clubs within 25 miles of you. Follow this link to find info on these clubs.

A great first step to finding an instructor is contacting these clubs and inquiring about the availability of instructors. And what the procedures for training are.
I'm not sure of the exact date, but there I think you can pay your AMA dues now and they will cover you for the rest of this year and next year too. Give the AMA a call to find out the exact details. Their phone number is (765) 287-1256.
I hope you find this info useful. Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
